Goliath, a male, 9 1/2 year old Great Dane, is not the most appropriate name for this lad because, as Great Danes go, he is tiny and not much bigger than a tall Greyhound. Still, sadly, he was signed over to Wonky Pets Rescue because he was too big and he’s now safe in a foster home in Swadlincote, Derbyshire. He can be rehomed further afield subject to a home-check and donation and hopes to go to his new home as soon as possible.

Goliath has really enjoyed having the space and freedom in his foster home. He loves going for walks with the pack and has good recall. He likes mooching around the paddock and, most of all, lying out in the sunshine sunbathing; he loves being outside in the fresh air.

Goliath has coped really well living with a big pack but the larger Danes have worried him a bit. He is great with dogs smaller than him and can live with another neutered, calm dog. He seems okay with dog-savvy cats and has been used to visiting grandchildren, and homes with resident children aged 5+ who are used to large dogs will be considered. He is used to having plenty of company but is okay being left for a few hours.

Goliath has a bit of food reactivity around his bowl with other dogs so is fed separately, but he has no issues around toys or his bed and will happily sleep with the other dogs quietly downstairs at night. He walks okay on the lead though he gets a little stressed in the car simply because he isn’t used to going in one, but this is something that can be worked on over time.

Goliath arrived in care with a mouth of really awful teeth and bad breath. He has now had a dental and needed several teeth removing and the others have all now been cleaned so his mouth is now nice and healthy. He also had a large skin tag removed from under his chest too. He is in good health for an older boy and he has started on some good joint supplements to help keep his joints nice and supple. He is castrated, microchipped, vaccinated, flea and worm treated and will be rehomed with 5 weeks’ free pet insurance.
