This handsome chap is appropriately called King. He was surrendered to South East Dog Rescue as he was getting too stressed out in his former home by a neighbour’s dog (large breed) who had attacked him. Therefore, King is hoping to find a new home where there are no reactive, neighbouring dogs (calm, neighbouring dogs will be fine though).

King has just turned 8 years old and he is a lovely, friendly West Highland Terrier. In true Scottie-fashion, he can be a bit stubborn and, if he wants to do something, he is going to do it. An ideal owner will have breed-experience (or Terrier-experience at the very least).

Due to King’s bad experiences, he has been reactive during on-lead walks with his former owner. At the rescue centre, he has been dog-tested with mainly small breeds and he has demonstrated some fantastic body language. However, he needs to be the only dog in the home, allowing any potential owner to continue working on his socialisation skills with other dogs outside the home first.

King is fine to be left on his own for a few hours and likes to sleep in a crate with the door left open. He is fully house-trained, not destructive in the home and a delightful traveller. He has not shown any signs of resource guarding whilst staying at SEDR.

King has never bitten in the home, but he does not like being told what to do so needs an experienced owner who understands how to manage these situations calmly. He will bark at visitors coming into the home but, once given a treat, he will calm down. King would prefer to live in an adult-only home with no visitors under 12 years old. Unfortunately, he cannot live with cats.

King has no medical issues. He has been muzzled at the vets/groomers previously for being a bit grumbly. However, he has been bathed successfully in rescue without the need for a muzzle and was a perfect gent.

King really is a delightful boy and once he knows and trusts you, he will show you just how sweet and friendly he is. However, you have to remember that sometimes, a Scottie has got to do what a Scottie’s got to do.
