19/11/2021 – Lottie has found a new home!
————-

Lovely Lottie is a female Patterdale Terrier and is 9 years and 2 months old still counting. She has a whole bunch of love to offer to the right someone wanting a companion full of life. Sadly, her previous owner had to go into care and Lottie is now in a foster home in Cheltenham, Glos., looking for her forever home.

Good in the home: Lottie settled quite quickly, within days, into a routine. She did follow people around at first but, once she knew the routines, she found her own little routines. Lottie quickly learned what was allowed and what was not allowed (i.e. not on human beds which is up to the forever home to decide) and Lottie happily adapted and settled in.

Can be left for short periods: Lottie is happy to be left on her own and generally sleeps during the time. The television is generally left running to distract her from outside noises. Lottie likes “Homes Under the Hammer” and “Countryfile” naturally! There’s no problem if the television is not left on; she isn’t destructive at all.

Pets in the home: Lottie could possibly live with another dog but would need socialisation and trialling with this. She is quite independent, so it’s uncertain if she could live with other dogs and, if the option were available, she would prefer to be the only dog. In Lottie’s two previous homes, she was the only dog. She shows interest in other dogs and gets very excited though she has not been socialised with them while in foster care. Lottie cannot live with cats as she becomes very excited when out on walks and has chased one fervently out of the back garden.

Children: It’s believed that Lottie could live with children 10 years and older. She is quite a robust, strong (physically) little dog so children should be older as she may knock over younger ones in her play and general behaviour.

Out and about: Lottie has not been left off the lead in her foster home, but she is very good on the lead. Cats and squirrels have Lottie pulling strongly, she is a terrier after all so cats and squirrels are expected. Lottie will return to your feet if just walking generally and does understand commands (Wait, Stop, Go, Ok, Steady). A harness is used and has helped a lot.

Good in the car: Lottie has only done only short journeys in the car to the vets, other family and to a park slightly further away for variety of walks. At first, she is a little nervous/anxious but does settle down during the journey.

Lottie’s favourite pastimes: She does like walks, two a day preferably. She loves being in fields and looking in hedges, under brambles and generally exploring. Lottie also like to play fetch in the garden. She will return with the toy but needs work on the drop command. Distraction pats on the head work to allow you to collect the toy to throw again and she loves to chase after the toy and return, tail wagging in excitement. Lottie loves belly rubs and will offer her paw if she needs one. Naturally, she also likes her treats and understands the commands “gentle”. She will then gently take a treat from you, taking it “Out the Back” into the garden to enjoy it. Lottie loves meeting people: neighbours, family (anyone that will say “hello”!).

Lottie’s dislikes: Nothing at all so far!

The perfect home: Lottie would benefit from an active home (for walks) with a garden whereby she can go and explore during the day. She likes human company and being around people. She loves and wants to be the centre of attention, especially if you have guests. Lottie would equally make a smashing companion for a single person.

Health notes: Lottie is neutered and is wormed and flea treated. She will come with the remainder of 6 months of flea treatment. She has been vet checked and has a clean bill of health. Lottie has lost weight on advice from the vet and this has mainly been through activity. She loves her treats and has still managed to lose weight, 1.2 kilograms since her first vet visit, so is looking svelte.

More from Lottie’s foster carer: “LOTTIE” stands for Loving, Outgoing, Tenacious, Terrier, Independent, Endearing, and that sums her up! She has so much love to give and is very loyal, just perfect for someone looking for a dog that is full of life, a bundle of fun and, if you like warm feet, Lottie is the one for you as she loves to sit and rest on her owner’s feet.
