19/6/22 – We’ve heard the wonderful news that Amie has found a home, and her new people first saw her as Old Dog of the Week on the Oldies Club website. We are very pleased to have been able to help her find the happiness she so deserves!
—————-

Beautiful Amie is in kennels in North Cornwall through SOKS (Saving Ovidiu Kill Shelter Dogs). She’s looking for a foster or permanent home with no other pets and where any youngsters are aged 16+, preferably in the South West but could be moved further for the perfect home.

This sweet girl isn’t technically an oldie as she’s about 4-years-old but she’s classed as harder to home because her looks are a bit wonky. In her previous existence in Romania, she suffered some severe trauma to her head. She’s still gorgeous, just slightly lopsided.

You soon don’t even notice this and it doesn’t stop her being utterly adorable!

Amie is clean and well behaved in the home. She would need time left alone to be built up gradually as she’s not used to being left for long. She was in foster care for a while during lockdown but her fosterer’s circumstances changed and, sadly, Amie has had to go into kennels until another foster home or permanent home can be found. She’s very loyal and loving with those who earn her trust. She’ll sit or lie down next to you once you’re best friends and likes to be stroked, brushed and have belly rubs.

Amie walks nicely on the lead in general but can be strong at times. She needs a moderate amount of exercise, not super long walks but enough to suitably stretch the legs. She can be a bit stiff and weak in the back legs when she first gets up after lying down for a long time, so little and often will keep her mobile but she shouldn’t over do it.

She’s choosy about other dogs and can be stand-offish with some, especially when on a short lead. On a test walk with a SOKS volunteer she ignored 2 out of the 3 dogs she passed but barked at one which she’d had an issue with before. She quickly calmed down though. Her foster carer found it easiest to just avoid other dogs. Walking her at quiet times of day is best and if you have access to a secure paddock with no other dogs, that would be lovely for her!

She is highly trainable as she’s extremely bright and responsive to her human…

…and to treats!

Amie enjoys meeting nice humans out and about. It’s thought she might have only partial sight on her right side, due to the past trauma to her head. People going to stroke her need to be told of this, as a hand suddenly appearing out of nowhere can be alarming for her.

The SOKS volunteer who assessed her also said, “Once she knows you she is very affectionate. She’s such a snuggler and very gentle. She has the softest, nicest feeling coat of any dog. She does like to collect things, shoes etc and take them to her bed. She has a really cute way of sitting down with her back feet sticking out to the side. When I walked her on and off the lead in the secure paddock she was also very responsive with good recall – and a very waggy tail! “

Her new foster carer or forever owner will need to be experienced, loving, wise enough to see past the superficial and to not have cats! She will want a garden to potter and sunbathe in as well.
