Mild-mannered Maureen is an 8-9 year old Collie Cross in the care of Animal Adoption International. She’s in a foster home in Essex with several other dogs and she really needs to have dog company in her forever home to help her confidence.

Maureen is a timid lady and wouldn’t want to live with children. She hasn’t met any cats so probably best if she doesn’t live with them but is fine with feathered things!

Maureen gets on better with male dogs. She’s generally good with all other dogs but she did have words with another female foster dog a couple of times. Happy introductions will obviously be needed before she considers gracing her new home with her presence.

Maureen likes a fuss from people she trusts but it has to be on her terms, when she’s in the mood. She is and will always be shy of strangers. She can be very nervous at times and when things get too much for her, she takes herself to her crate where she knows she’ll be left in peace.

Maureen needs a peaceful home in a quiet area as heavy traffic worries her. She usually enjoys her walks and is good on the lead. However, if she’s feeling particularly unsure about things she will refuse to go out and she cannot be forced into situations she’s not comfortable with, even if you can’t tell what it is that’s troubling her. She’s not demanding when she’s upset, she just takes herself away until all is well again. Bless her!

Maureen can be left at home for a few hours as long as she has her doggy pals. She’s very well behaved in the house. When she comes out of her shell, she’s a playful and affectionate girl. She just needs owners who allow her to get used to things in her own time.

Her foster carer says, “Maureen has been in foster for 2 years, originally from Romania and she arrived a very nervous girl.  She has progressed over her time in foster but is still nervous and experience of nervous dogs a must.  She didn’t walk for the first year and does go out for walks but is hit or miss.  Some days she will go and others not.  She will never be an off lead dog and will need to be double leaded on walks.  She lives with 5 other dogs and prefers their company to humans although once comfortable with you, will come for a stroke but always on her terms.  Ideally she would love a huge fully secured space so she didn’t have to walk and definitely one other dog at least for company, preferably male.  She is a nice girl but can suddenly get nervous and run away from you.”

You’ll know you’ve won Maureen’s trust when she approaches you for a fuss!
