Roo is a small spaniel-sized, brindle crossbreed, perhaps with some Chihuahua in her makeup. She weighs 10.5kg and is almost 10 years old. Roo is with Chilterns Dog Rescue Society, near Tring, Hertfordshire.

In Roo’s photos, she looks quite short-coated, because she has been recently clipped, but her coat is naturally quite long and thick.

Roo began life in Romania but has been living happily in a UK family home for the past seven years. Sadly Roo’s former owners made the difficult decision to part with her because both their young children were diagnosed with additional needs and are very anxious when in the same room as Roo. Poor Roo, who has done nothing wrong, had been relegated to the kitchen and stopped going for the country walks she used to enjoy so much. Life became very dull for her and she became quite introverted.

But since arriving at the Rescue Centre, Roo has grown in confidence and has become very popular with the volunteers. She greets everyone politely and walks calmly on the lead. Although Roo has not lived with another dog and would probably prefer to be the only dog in the home, she walks and plays well with the dogs she has been introduced to at the Centre. Roo has little experience of car travel and can be a bit anxious when taken out. With more opportunities to get out and about, Roo is very likely to be able to make this an exciting part of her new life.

She is used to spending time alone so, while she would like company for much of the day, she would also be quite relaxed if left by herself for a few hours and would probably just curl up in her basket for a nap. With her slightly quirky looks and sweet nature, Roo is very deserving of a long and happy retirement. She would suit a home with someone with the time and experience to help her adjust to a very different lifestyle, somewhere she will not only receive lots of love but also regular daily exercise, preferably in a rural environment.

Roo has not lived with cats or other animals. She has lived with children but the staff who care for her feel she now deserves an adult-only home where she can finally relax and become a proper, integrated part of the family. Roo has had a recent health check and, apart from some mild gingivitis, is in great shape for her years.

Could you offer Roo a lovely life?
