14/6/23 – Lovely Winnie has found her new home!

————————–

Winnie is a female fawn-coloured Lurcher who is 7 years old. She is being rehomed by Lurcher Link Rescue and is fostered in Gloucestershire. Note that her age when she arrived with Lurcher Link was estimated as 6, and is shown as such on their forum, but she’s been with them a while and is thought to be about 7 now.

This pretty girl is a fairly small lurcher, only 16″ to the shoulder, and weighing about 20kg. She is possibly a bull-whippet cross. Winnie must have a cat-free home and can’t live with other small animals.

She is a very friendly dog who loves people and is excellent with children. Winnie has in fact passed the assessment to be a certified Pets as Therapy (PAT) dog and has visited a school for children with profound special needs and deafness. Winnie absolutely loves cuddles and being near her humans.

Winnie travels well in the car. She is generally dog-friendly, and enjoys playing and zoomies with other dogs. She has previously lived with another dog, and is currently living with a male dog in foster, who she likes to cuddle up with. However she will not back down if challenged, and this has lead to a few scuffles in the past. Therefore she should not be off-lead where she might meet unknown dogs.

She walks well on the lead – unless she sees something to chase, then she will lunge, but the fosterer reports that this is getting better with training. Winnie has a high prey-drive and has sadly killed wildlife in the past, and also a cat. Winnie must therefore be muzzled when out. Her recall is improving in her foster home, but is not perfect – as is typical with sighthounds! Winnie is very responsive to training and has come on leaps and bounds with her fosterer. She is highly food-motivated and knows ‘wait’, ‘stop’, ‘sit’ and ‘off’.

She is housetrained. She is used to being left at home for up to 3 hours (in the company of other dogs), however this time will need to be built up slowly in any new home.

Could you offer Winnie a home with no cats or small animals?
