Handsome Kevin is a 9 year old Husky type of dog who is the subject of a cruelty case and looking for a foster home. When cruelty case dogs are removed by RSPCA Inspectors they come into the care of RSPCA Millbrook in Surrey for physical and mental rehabilitation. Kevin is now looking for a foster home as Court cases can sometimes take between 6 months and 2 years to conclude. At Millbrook, the dogs are often rehabilitated long before the conclusion of the court case. It’s much better for them to be out in foster homes as this will offer them far more than in a kennel environment. Due to the current situation, court cases have been delayed so Kevin would love to have the comfort of a home environment while he waits for his day in court.

Kevin is very friendly with people but has had no experience with children and can be worried by handling, so he would be best in an adult home. He travels well and he will need a medium/large vehicle as he is not used to long journeys. He may need house-training and will need someone based at home for a gradual build up to being left. He will require grooming.

Kevin needs to be an only dog in the home. He will need to stay on the lead in public at all times and walked in quiet areas where there are not other dogs off the lead. Distance needs to be maintained around other dogs as a precaution, but he can walk pass other dogs from a distance. He is a big dog so will need a foster home that can physically hold him and walk him and he will benefit from 2 on-lead walks a day and the opportunity to explore the garden; renting privately hired dog walking field/area would be recommended. He will need direct access to a private, fully-secured, large garden with 6ft fencing for off-lead play.

Please read the information below carefully:
Potential foster homes will need to live within an hour of the centre in Chobham, Surrey. The costs of medication or veterinary treatment needed during fostering will be covered by the RSPCA, but they ask the fosterer to cover the cost of food or grooming. You must be able to come back to the centre once a month for a vet check on a set day. They must wear their collar and ID tag at all times. All dogs will also need to stay on the lead in public at all times. Because of this, they will need a large, private secure garden with 6ft fences so they can have off lead play.

Unfortunately some cases do not have the results aimed for as the courts decide the outcome. Fosterers must be prepared that there is no guarantee the case will be done and will need to cope with this outcome. It may result in the dog being returned to the original owner or an associate of theirs. If the courts decide that the dog needs to be returned to an owner, the fosterers must return the dog to Millbrook with immediate effect.

If you do decide to foster a dog, you will offer the dog the chance of love and comfort in a home environment for whatever length of time and this is of huge benefit to the dog. Please consider fostering carefully.
