Molly is an 11-year-old Akita X Husky who’s looking for a lovely, quiet home through Mayhew Animal Home in North West London, due to her previous owner’s change in circumstances. She’s a cheerful and substantial lady of 30kg who could live with dog-savvy children from age 12 upwards.

Molly is an affectionate dog who enjoys nothing more than spending time with her favourite human, receiving an endless amount of love. She is also always up for a game of fetch or a good walk, exploring the outdoors.

Her foster carer said, “Molly is a playful, curious and independent girl who is still very active for her age. She enjoys sofa naps, tummy rubs and, above all, treats. She has a sweet and easy going temperament and loves meeting new human friends, adults and children alike. Outdoor adventures are her absolute favourite thing but she’s also very happy relaxing at home. Molly is a wonderful companion who will surely be a loving and treasured member of her future family.”

She could live in a flat as long as there is direct access to a garden but can be vocal at times, so this should be considered. She can be grumpy around certain dogs, so she wears a muzzle and long line as a safety measure when out on walks. Ideally, walking she’d like to be walked in peaceful countryside so she can explore unimpeded. She is easy to manage for someone experienced, even when she does encounter other dogs and she will happily trot away when prompted by her human. She’s responded very well to training. Her adopter will be expected to continue her training and will receive 3 free sessions with the resident Mayhew Animal Behaviourist, which is standard for all their dogs.

Molly can be left at home for a few hours once she’s settled in and got used to the routine. She has been neutered, microchipped, vaccinated and is up to date with flea and worm treatment. She has spondylosis of her spine; a non-inflammatory, life-long condition. Currently she is a very happy dog not showing any obvious pain or discomfort. However, in the future she will eventually need pain relief to manage the condition.

Molly is clean indoors now but was previously diagnosed with possible urethral sphincter mechanism incontinence. This can be common in older, large breeds of dogs or may be associated with the spondylosis. She was placed on medication to help control her urinary incontinence but has since been weaned off successfully and is no longer showing signs of incontinence. Adopters would need to monitor this situation and consult their vet if needed. All oldies deserve some TLC and Molly is certainly worth it!
