Chanel is a Spanish Terrier of 9 years who’s looking for an adult-only, pet free home through Rescue Remedies. She’s currently staying at their boarding kennels near Gatwick on the Surrey/West Sussex border.
She spends regular respite weekends in a foster home where she can relax and shower her carers with love!
Chanel is very affectionate with people she knows and trusts. She’s the precise opposite with people she doesn’t know or feels threatened by. Despite being tiny, she will make a lot of noise to keep potential baddies at bay. Being tiny though, this is easy enough to manage and the intensity of her love for her people far outweighs this fear-based habit of hers.
Her foster carer said, “Chanel came to stay for the weekend. She is not a big fan of travelling in the car, and was a bit reluctant to get in. But before long she was settled and looking comfortable in her new elevated booster seat. We stopped at the Gatwick airport to visit the McDonalds drive-thru. Chanel was happy to wait and never begs for any food. We took a talk around the airport grounds and watched the planes landing. Chanel barked a warning at a plane spotter who tried to approach us and he wisely kept his distance. Chanel is like having a personal body guard, always wanting to protect you.
“It was a long drive home, and Chanel relaxed most of the way. But unfortunately was car sick at some point. On arrival she was very excited to visit the house again and ran around the different rooms and garden. She played with some squeaky toys for a while but then was happy to accept a belly rub. After her evening walk she enjoyed her food and was ready to settle down for the evening.
“Chanel slept happily on the floor of my room and was patiently waiting for me to wake up early. She is far too polite to wake anyone up! She was very excited to be somewhere new and ran all the way to the garden and played for a while. She was invited to my Mum’s room and woke her up with a lovely greeting. Later my Mum’s friend came round and rang the bell. Of course Chanel barked the alarm at an unfamiliar person and continued to bark when he came in. However she quickly realised he was a friend, and within about half an hour she was lying on the couch without a care. When he got up to leave she jumped down and was fine, managing to say goodbye from a distance.
“Being a Saturday we did a long walk in the park and then through the woods and up the hill to the Cafe. Chanel was fine with the many people and dogs we encountered. She didn’t bark or look overly concerned. When I sat to have some food and drink at the cafe, Chanel was under the table relaxed but ever vigilant keeping an eye on the surroundings. She did have a short bark-off with a passing Dachshund but was good natured. On the way back it was a lovely sunny day, and Chanel enjoyed going on a longer lead and running down the hill. She worked up a good appetite and seemed to really enjoy her food on our return.
“The rest of the day went quickly, I was around the house watching TV and doing some work. Chanel seemed content to stay with me, and let me get on with it. Later on, Chanel accompanied me on an errand and was happy to go into a pet carrier when visiting someone’s house. I was worried she might not like it, but Chanel is very adaptable and seems to trust you. She was relaxed and lying down quietly, such a good girl!
“Chanel is completely clean in the house. Sleeps through the night but she is scared of the dark and doesn’t like to be too far away from you. Travels well in the car, but can get car sick. So it’s best not to feed her soon before travelling. Loves a long walk and doesn’t get tired.Enjoys her food but needs to work up an appetite first. Happy as a companion in whatever you’re doing. She is not demanding or always on the go.
“Overall it is hard to find any negative points to say about Chanel. She is such a good girl, in the house she is respectful and listens to what you say, she will accompany you in whatever you’re doing and just fits in without making a fuss. Chanel is just the best dog you could wish for and I hope her perfect home comes along soon.”
