Teddy is a glorious 7-year-old English Bulldog who came into the Oldies Club rescue as one of the children in his home was being far too boisterous with him. Teddy is in a foster home in Newmarket, Suffolk, waiting for someone to offer him a permanent home.
Summary: Teddy would like to be your only pet but he could live with sensible teenagers. Although he enjoys attention, he’s happy to snooze while you go out. He’s excellent in the car and only needs short walks, especially in warm weather. Teddy has a few health issues that are now nicely under control, but you must be committed to his ongoing care to keep him happy and healthy.

Settled well in foster: Gorgeous Teddy had fully settled at his foster home within a few weeks.

Can be left: Teddy is absolutely fine to be left on his own for 4-5 hours. He would be happy to live with someone who goes out to work part time, and potentially even full time if he had a break with some attention and garden time halfway through the day.

Needs to be an only dog: Teddy’s foster carer advises that Teddy would be best living as an only dog. Out and about, with male dogs, Teddy tends to try to give them a little headbutt to test them. He is much better with female dogs though and he tends to ignore smaller dogs. As you can see in the photos, he’s extremely happy as an only dog, surrounded by his toys and with a nice comfy sofa to snooze on.

Needs a home without cats: Teddy hasn’t lived with cats previously, so we are looking for a cat-free home for him. His foster carer reports that Teddy does tend to ignore cats he sees though.

Fine with older children: Although the young children in Teddy’s original home were upsetting him, Teddy seems very good with children. He could potentially live with sensible, dog-experienced children aged 12+.

Enjoys shortish walks: Teddy is good on the lead but he doesn’t have great recall as hasn’t been let off the lead much previously. He only needs about 15 to 30 minutes walking, twice a day. Due to his breed and face shape, in hot weather you should only walk Teddy briefly, in the early morning and/or late evening, so that he doesn’t overheat.

Loves a car ride: Teddy is excellent in the car. And doesn’t he look simply magnificent there.

Teddy’s favourite pastimes: Sleeping. Playing. Destroying tennis balls – you can see his next victim below.

Teddy’s ideal home: Handsome Teddy simply wants a loving family who will pay him a lot of attention and give him the regular daily care he needs to keep him healthy.

Sleeping arrangements: Teddy sleeps in his own bed in the bedroom. Good boy.
Health notes:
Teddy is neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, wormed and flea treated. Teddy has had a few health issues addressed since arriving at his Oldies Club foster home and his foster carer has done a wonderful job of giving Teddy the daily care that was required to get him in great shape. Teddy’s adopters must be totally committed to keeping up the good work of his foster carer.
Due to his breed, and tendency to overheat in very hot weather, Teddy was referred to have a BOAS (brachycephalic obstructive airway syndrome) assessment at a specialist clinic. The results were very encouraging (grade 1) and no surgery or treatment was advised for this.
Teddy has allergies which cause cysts on his paws, resulting in irritation. He is also prone to eye ulcers and ear infections. Teddy is taking 16mg of Apoquel daily for his allergies and this will be ongoing. Teddy also needs to be kept to a strict hypoallergenic diet and he is currently being fed Royal Canin Anallergenic food.
Our vet began treatment of Teddy’s ear infection and then referred him to a dermatology specialist who flushed Teddy’s ears and CT scanned them. The scan showed that the middle ear has not been affected, which is very good news. The ear flush, and subsequent topical treatments administered diligently by his foster carer, have cleared the ear infection. Teddy’s ears are now doing very well indeed but his adopters must not let this good work go to waste.
Teddy’s face-folds and between his toes need to be wiped twice daily with CLX wipes. If his paws flare up, he has steroid cream for them. The dermatologist recommended using Peptivet ear drops twice weekly long term. They also recommended Cortavance spray to be applied on the skin between Teddy’s pads every other day long term.
Foster carer’s summary of Teddy: Teddy is stubborn, funny, goofy and loving. Teddy can get over excited around toys. He is very food motivated. If he slows down on a walk it tends to mean he has something in his paw.

If you would like to offer Teddy a permanent home, please read our Adoption Procedures for information about the adoption process. You can then contact the Oldies Club rehoming team as follows:
Email: rehome@oldies.org.uk for an application form.
Or phone 0844 586 8656, leaving a message including your email address, and we’ll email an application form.
Teddy can be rehomed anywhere on the UK mainland – the closer to his foster home the better – subject to a satisfactory home visit. Note that you will be required to travel to the foster home to collect him.
If you would love to offer a home to an oldie but your circumstances aren’t suitable, perhaps you would be kind enough to sponsor one of the special oldies we are caring for that, due to health problems, are unlikely to be offered a permanent home.
