A very special home is needed for adorable Ivy. She was rescued from a family who gave her up because they were no longer capable of looking after her. She was rehomed at one point about a year ago but it’s believed she was bred there and she sustained an injury to her ear. She was in an awful state, but now she is safely in the care of Meadow of Hope in Nottingham.
Ivy is a French Bulldog and is about 7 years old. She is highly affectionate and enjoys playing with toys and balls and receiving one-on-one attention. She definitely needs a peaceful atmosphere without children; a quiet family would be ideal for her. Her last home was a very volatile and noisy place, and if there are any unexpected movements or loud voices, she reacts by barking and becomes anxious.
Ivy is very bossy and erratic around other dogs in the house; she rubs herself on every toy, chew, and bed. However, she seems to get along with other dogs outside the home and enjoys going for walks. Ivy likes being outside and walks well on a leash. Ivy would probably be the happiest as an only dog where she can get lots of one-on-one attention.
Ivy is spayed, vaccinated and flea/worm treated. In an attempt to treat her skin issue, it’s now much better after taking steroids for a short time and then starting on Apoquel. She is currently going through a food elimination process because she seems to become itchy a lot after eating chicken, beef, pig or lamb, and even treats that contain any of these ingredients seem to flare up her skin.
At the minute, Ivy is having venison and wild boar which both seem to suit her and are quite cheap from the pet shop at £1.50 per frozen block. She is also having turmeric and probiotic.
Ivy also has Nystagmus, a disorder that impairs her vision. When she is under stress, her eyes flicker back and forth. She had this from birth. It makes it difficult for her to notice distant objects, and occasionally she will miss objects on the ground. For example, if you throw a ball, she won’t see it if it gets too far.
