Suzie is a super little 12-year-old Shih Tzu who came into Oldies Club rescue as her owner was moving into care. Suzie is in a foster home in Easington, County Durham, waiting for someone to offer her a lovely permanent home.
Summary: Suzie is a very sweet-natured girl who is laid back and easy to care for. She’ll sleep in her crate if you need to go out, and enjoys having children visit her home. She’s good with dogs on walks but isn’t used to living with dogs or cats. Suzie has a few health issues but is very good about having her treatments.
Settled immediately in foster care: Suzie didn’t seem troubled by her move into foster care at all. She settled instantly and never cried or barked.
Can be left for 2-3 hours: Suzie is perfectly happy to be left on her own for a few hours when you need to go out. She sleeps after her breakfast and toilet, and sleeps again after her walk at lunchtime. We are looking for a home where someone is generally around for most of the day though.
Good with dogs outside: Suzie has never lived with dogs but she has been good with all dogs she has met on walks. She never shows any sign of aggression.
Not lived with cats: She has never lived with cats so we are seeking a cat-free home for Suzie.
Good with visiting children: Suzie loves it when her foster carer’s grandchildren visit. Their ages are from 5 upwards. Although she is used to having a fairly quiet life, Suzie will be very happy to have well-supervised children visit her home.
Enjoys regular short walks: Suzie likes to go out for a walk at a slow pace and to have a good sniff. She enjoys three walks per day of 15-20 minutes each. In the recent hot weather, she just went out twice a day at the cooler times. She is good on the lead and comes to you when called.
Good in the car: Yes, she is!
Sleeping arrangements: Suzie sleeps in her crate overnight and when her foster carer goes out.
Suzie’s favourite pastimes: She likes to snooze at her foster carer’s feet. Suzie is very reliable in letting you know that it’s time to eat or go out for a short walk! She has no interest in toys etc.
Suzie’s ideal home: She would enjoy living with an older person who is wanting a friend to take out for regular gentle walks. Suzie needs a home with a safe and secure garden for her to enjoy pottering around in – a garden with a lawn would be best.
Health notes: Suzie is neutered, vaccinated and microchipped and has been wormed and flea treated. While in our care, Suzie has had an operation on one of her eyes for entropion (eyelashes growing inwards and rubbing on the eye). Her ongoing health needs are Optimmune and Remend drops for her eyes, and Apoquel (half a tablet daily) for her skin. Occasionally she needs her ears cleaned with Otodine, and a bath using Malaseb shampoo. Suzie is being fed Hills low fat diet for pancreatitis control.
More from Suzie’s foster carer: “Please don’t be put off by Suzie having a couple of health issues as she is easy to treat. She just sits still for her eye drops and doesn’t complain. She is easy to bath every few weeks, and her tablet just goes in her food. Suzie is the easiest dog to look after and also the sweetest. She loves everyone and stops to say hello to every person and dog, which makes a short walk take a while as she also likes to sniff everything. She is not an energetic dog, but if you want a lovely companion with a sweet nature then Suzie is for you.”
If you would like to offer Suzie a permanent home, please read our Adoption Procedures for information about the adoption process. You can then contact the Oldies Club rehoming team as follows:
Email: rehome@oldies.org.uk for an application form.
Or phone 0844 586 8656, leaving a message including your email address, and we’ll email an application form.
Suzie can be rehomed anywhere on the UK mainland – the closer to her foster home the better – subject to a satisfactory home visit. Note that you will be required to travel to the foster home to collect her.
If you would love to offer a home to an oldie but your circumstances aren’t suitable, perhaps you would be kind enough to sponsor one of the special oldies we are caring for that, due to health problems, are unlikely to be offered a permanent home.
