This is an urgent appeal for an animal-free, adult-only foster home. Could you help Paddy?
Little Paddy the 15-year-old Patterdale needs to come back to Oldies Club rescue to look for a new home. He was originally rehomed by us 4 years ago, but due to recent incidents with the chickens in the garden at his home, Paddy needs a new place to call home.
Paddy is currently in the Scottish borders. We will arrange transport to his new foster home, but it needs to be within a 4-hour drive, preferably closer. Please only offer to foster Paddy if your home is a good match for his needs. If you have holiday coming up in the next 6 months, this won’t work for fostering Paddy.
In the home, Paddy is a generally laid-back little chap who enjoys attention and he likes to sit with you. He will nose you when he wants a tickle. He is good with visitors to the home and doesn’t jump up.
He isn’t used to being left on his own very often, but he just sleeps while you’re out, so provided he’s had his food and a walk he should be fine for a couple of hours when you go shopping etc.
Paddy needs two walks per day of about 20 minutes each. He must stay on his lead as his recall isn’t good – he gets distracted – and he would chase any cats and small animals he might come across. He doesn’t really socialise with other dogs as he’s not keen on them, especially dogs on a lead. He has been OK with dogs that visit his home, but he can be a bit anxious about it, so he needs to be the only dog in his foster home.
He has killed chickens at his current home, and has become obsessed with trying to get to them, so he must have a very secure garden where there is no possibility that he could get out. A home where there are no chickens or similar at neighbouring properties, and no cats or small furries likely to pop into the garden would be best. Paddy might be an older boy, but his terrier instincts are still very strong!
He isn’t keen on being picked up and to do this you need to approach him gently and slowly and be reassuring about it. If you just go to pick him up quickly, he might demonstrate his mistrust of your manoeuvre with an air snap. He has never bitten.
We are seeking an adult-only foster home for Paddy. He is OK with children aged about 8+ visiting his home, but they would need to be properly supervised as Paddy isn’t a dog that wants to be manhandled.
Paddy is good in the car and travels happily on the back seat with his seatbelt/harness.
He’s in good health for his age and sees and hears fine. He’s clean in the house and sleeps through at night in his basket in the hallway.
Although we are initially seeking a foster home, we would be very happy to hear from anyone wanting to foster Paddy with a view to adopting him.
Paddy is a fabulous little fellow to have around, if you aren’t a cat/mouse/gerbil/chicken…! Could you offer him a foster home as soon as possible?
