21/10/10 Very sad news: Ruby died at the kennels late afternoon 18 October 2010. She is thought to have had a heart attack. Ruby will be sadly missed.

Ruby is a beautiful Rottie lady of about 9 or 10 years old who is being rehomed by Three Counties Dog Rescue in Lincolnshire.
Ruby has been featured on our website for almost 2 years. Sadly, despite being a sweet-natured, loveable girl, Ruby is still waiting for someone to fall in love with her and offer her a forever home. We recently featured her as our Old Dog of the Week, hoping that it would get her noticed by the people that are destined to be hers.
If I sniff intently at the grass, perhaps she’ll stop pointing that camera at me
Jackie of Three Counties has kindly sent us some new information on Ruby and taken the new photos that appear on this page. A summary of Jackie’s words follow:
“Ruby is still a stunner of a dog, and she looks and behaves like a much younger dog. She came to Three Counties with a dog called Major in May 2008. They came in because their owner was having to move and could no longer afford to have dogs. They were probably some of the first dogs to suffer because of the recession.
Throughout her time with us Ruby has remained a very friendly girl. She loves human contact and tends to ignore other dogs. Watching Ruby when out is amusing as she likes to play and do the mini agility course, but she does this all at a very steady pace and in her own time! She has quite recently started to show signs of old age arthritis and receives medication for this.
Ruby loved Major and she was the lead dog in their relationship. Ruby and Major were separated several months ago as she was becoming a bit of a bossy boots when they were playing. Ruby would simply bowl her way through to make sure she was getting all the attention. She was not at all aggressive, but to be fair to Major it was decided to separate them. Major, although a big lad, was really a bit of a wimp so it was very easy for Ruby to push him around!”
I’ll just look the other way now
Jackie continues: “We therefore feel that if Ruby is to go to live with another dog it would need to be a non-dominant, calm male dog. Because of her age, we don’t want to rehome Ruby with young children as it simply wouldn’t be fair on her.
Ruby is an easy girl to look after as she doesn’t need a lot of exercise. She loves her food, in fact so much so that it would not hurt her to lose a little weight. We do tend to spoil her because she is so lovable. You can see in the photos she just loves the back of her neck rubbed and her chin tickled. Ruby is also special as she has the ability to smile, which looks quite unusual in such a big dog!”
Up a bit, right a bit, aaahhhhh!
Ruby is available for adoption or as a Long Term Foster. As a fosterer, Three Counties would ask you to provide “bed and board” and you would need to be able to get Ruby to Stamford, Lincs, for veterinary care at Three Counties’ vets. However, if you instead wanted to adopt Ruby, Three Counties would consider rehoming her outside of the normal 50 mile zone they prefer to operate in, to ensure she gets the care and home comforts she really deserves.
Will I ever get a new home, Katie?
Do you want your days brightened by having a beautiful Ruby smiling and wagging her stumpy tail at you?
