18/12/11 We’ve heard the very sad news that Joey’s seizures increased to the point that they were happening constantly and so the sad decision was made to let him go. Sleep tight Joey. :(

————-

It’s so sad that dear Joey has been overlooked in kennels for 5 years due to his special needs. He is a black, 8.5 year old, Staffordshire Bull Terrier cross and is being cared for by Animal Care Lancaster, while they try hard to find him a long-term foster home, preferably locally. This means that Animal Care will pay for all medication and treatment that Joey needs in relation to his current health problems.

Joey is on medication for fits and a possible brain tumour which would be discussed at length with a suitable fosterer. He would need undertanding owners as he has been so long in kennels and will take time to settle into a home again. Joey needs a home where he gets plenty of exercise, where someone is around for a lot of the time and a doggy friend or two to play with, but no cats. Due to his suffering fits, he should be homed with children over 15 years old only. He has been neutered.

Even though Joey has fits, he is still very active in between them. He still loves to go for walks and exploring new places and absolutely loves playing with his toys and other dogs.

Joey would like to tell you all about himself:
Hello there everyone,
My name is Joey and I am one of Animal Care’s longest residents. I have been here since 6 June 2006 and when I arrived I was 3.5 years old. I am desperate for a new home as I haven’t been very well lately and I just want someone who will love me and look after me when I’m not feeling too good. I am a very happy lad, who always gets very excited when someone comes to see me and can occasionally get a little giddy. It’s just that I’ve been here such a long time that being with someone new is just so exciting. I love going for walks and playing with my toys. In fact there’s not much I don’t like doing really. I am just full of fun and want to live my life to the full which I haven’t been able to do since I’ve been here.
A while ago I started having fits which was, and still is, very frightening. I am so scared when I am on my own and I have one, as sometimes I can’t see properly after it. I have had tests and they think I might have something called a brain tumour. I don’t really understand what that means, after all I’m a dog, but I know I would feel so much better if I was with someone who would look after me and most of all love me. Please ask one of my human friends on reception all about this brain tumour thing and they will tell you all about it and tell you what a wonderful boy I am. They might also tell you a couple of my bad points, but I promise if you take me home I’ll try not to be a bad boy at all!!!
I would love a new home where I can get plenty of exercise and playtimes and most of all love. Every day I hope that today might just be the day someone falls in love with me and takes me home forever and ever. Paws crossed that day comes very soon and I can feel safe and loved for the rest of my life.
Woof, woof, woof Joey xxxxxxx
