2/1/12 Skye has sadly had to be put to sleep due to illness.

Sky is a beautiful black and tan GSD girl who finds herself back in rescue with Maxicare Dog Rehoming. She is around 9 years old.

Skye is very upset to be in kennels and is hoping that her forever family will come along very soon to take her home. She loves people and has lived with sensible children before. However, she is aggressive towards other dogs and will need an experienced owner who is used to large breeds.

Skye is strong on the lead and will have to be the only pet in her new home. She is a lovely and affectionate girl who will make a lovely companion to the right people.

Skye orginally arrived in rescue as a stray. She spent a short stint in a foster home but, however, due to personal circumstances, the foster carer could only keep Skye for a defined period and so now poor Skye ended up back in kennels.

Skye was so well behaved in her foster home that she must wonder what she did wrong. It’s times like this that you really wish you could explain to dogs why things are having to happen to them. Skye was featured as our Old Dog of the Week to try to get her noticed and in the hope that the home she has been waiting for will be out there and will find her.

Skye is a beautiful German Shepherd lady who, once she has been allowed time to get to know you, is very affectionate and so very loyal. Syke has a pretty face and a lovely, friendly nature to match. She likes a treat and takes them gently.

Presumably due to being attacked by dogs in the past, Skye doesn’t like other animals and so she needs a home where she is the only pet. A home with a large, secure garden for her to play ball in would be perfect. She loves playing with a large ball, so she’d like her new owner to be active enough for a game of footy! She needs regular exercise, but provided she is getting garden playtime, her walks only need to be short as she has mild hip dysplasia. She stays on her lead for walks — she is excellent on the lead but can pull if she sees other dogs, so you will need to be strong enough to hold her.

Skye is spayed. She has Rimadyl once a day for the mild hip dysplasia.

Maxicare tell us: “Sadly, Skye has been in kennels for quite some time now and so will need a home with people who are prepared to give her time and space to settle and get to know them and their home routine. She needs to be an only pet and also be kept away from other animals as she really does not like them”.

But, given the right type of home, and with people that understand Skye, she will flourish into a truly special girl, as the following extract from her previous foster carer’s report on Skye reveals: “She is an undemanding dog but grateful for every bit of attention shown to her. She loves her cosy bed but leaps at the chance to play with anyone who is willing, and will happily entertain herself playing with a ball. She is very clean in the house, likes to be brushed and will even let you clean her ears. She is sweet and friendly with visitors to the house, happy to be left for a few hours, never goes upstairs or misbehaves at all. She loves to get in the car (needs a little help sometimes) and will often sniff at the boot in the hope of a trip to somewhere exciting.”

We hope that Skye will once again get a chance to prove how well behaved she is once settled in a home, because now, her home is a sadly once again a kennel.
