21/11/18 – Lovely Ruby has found a lovely home, having been spotted on Oldies Club! Congratulations all round!

Delightfully loving Ruby is a 14 year old Chocolate Lab lady being rehomed privately by the family of her owner, who sadly has dementia and is unable to care for her any more. The whole family loves Ruby very much but no one can give her the time (and cuddles!) she deserves. She’s currently living with her owner’s Son in Wheatley near Oxford.

Ruby is a friendly old girl who loves everyone! She can be left for up to 4 hours and will happily snooze, but she does enjoy having company. She can only manage short walks now and these are more about socialising than gallivanting. Her back legs are quite weak. If you have a large, flattish garden, she wouldn’t really need walks at all. She can’t manage steps or stairs well anymore but her physical limitations haven’t dampened her spirits at all. She’s as affectionate, jolly and funny as ever!

Ruby, in typical Lab fashion, is fixated by food. If she knows it might be worth a try, she’ll stare at you meaningfully while you eat. She’s on a strict diet to help keep her weight down, for the sake of her mobility. That means she’ll need you to resist her charms and never give her any tit bits… at all… Ever! She’s used to having two meals a day of fish and potatoes (yum!) mixed with some water.

Her favourite place to be is the kitchen. Apart from the nearness of food, she likes to be aware of any comings and goings AND she needs direct access to the garden. When Ruby needs a wee, she needs to get outside straight away. She used have the occasional accident but that’s stopped ever since water has been added to her food. Her brain seems to get more warning time now she’s more hydrated. Bless her!

Ruby has so much love to give and is a really easy going girl. She’s fine with other dogs and good with children. Not so good with cats but apart from that, she’s perfect!

If you can give Ruby the happy retirement home she seeks please contact Kate (Ruby’s owner’s daughter, based in North London). Kate will carry out the usual checks, including a homecheck and has confirmed that the family would take Ruby back if the adoption didn’t work out for any reason. They are also offering to pay for future vet costs for Ruby. She’s a very robust girl but if this sort of fostering arrangement would suit you, the offer’s there. Also, Kate would like the option to visit Ruby now and then, for old time’s sake.
