15/10/18 – Slaney has found a home.

This gorgeous gentleman is a patient, affectionate Greyhound of 9 years called Slaney. He’s in the care of Romford Greyhound Owner’s Association (RGOA) in Brentwood, Essex. He’d be best suited to a really peaceful home with no children. It’s thought he doesn’t necessarily need walks, just a big, secure garden. He’s a loving boy who enjoys being groomed and fussed, leaning nearly all his weight on you in appreciation!

Lovely boy Slaney is a retired racer (racing name Slaneyside Fancy) who has only ever lived in kennels. It’s high time he knew the comfort and safety of a loving home. He’ll need an understanding owner who will help him get used to life indoors. Greyhounds are sensitive souls who will only respond to gentle treatment and positive reinforcement training methods. He might take a while to settle in but he’ll reward your efforts with endless affection and devotion.

Slaney has been overlooked for far too long. Possibly because his nervousness around other breeds of dog means he needs a home that’s just right. He could live with a calm, female Greyhound (after polite introductions) or as an only pet. He currently has a daily 20 minute stroll which is a welcome break from his kennel. He’s known to be a nice walker, very patient and generally quiet. He’s a real gentleman who waits his turn to go on the lead, ready to set forth.

Having been confined most of the time and only really familiar with other Greyhounds his whole life, he can find the outside world and those oddly shaped other dogs out there, a bit of a worry. If you’re able to walk him somewhere free from such cares, that’s wonderful. If not though, it’s thought that once he’s in a relaxed home environment with access to a good sized garden, he’ll be happy to forego walkies in favour of safety.

A volunteer at RGOA called Graeme said, “…People who don’t know much about Greyhounds usually assume they’re very energetic but this isn’t the case at all! They actually spend a fair bit of their time not doing much. We call them couch potatoes! They’re also very passive. They make fantastic pets.”
