This is an urgent appeal for a Foster-to-Adopt home for Dylan where there is someone at home a lot of the time.
Dylan is a 15-year-old Shih Tzu who came back into Oldies Club care recently due to the death of his adopter. He now needs to move from his foster home, through no fault of his own.
As he’s had a lot of upheaval, we want Dylan to move to a foster home where he is likely to be adopted by his foster carer, to save him moving again. Hence this is a Foster-to-Adopt appeal.
Dylan is currently in Cambridge. We will arrange transport to his Foster-to-Adopt home, but it needs to be within a 3-hour drive of Cambridge. Please only offer to foster Dylan if your home is a good match for his needs and you have no holiday plans.
This super little chap is good with dogs and cats. He loves to be your shadow and would like a home with someone around most of the time. His foster carers have gradually got him used to being left for an hour or two. He’s excellent in the car and enjoys an interesting walk.
Dylan has good social skills and he mixes with many other breeds on his walks. He’s good with the resident Labrador at his foster home.
Dylan has lived with cats before, and in foster he met a cat when out visiting a relative and they got along fine.
Due to his deteriorating eyesight and hearing, children would need to be aged 10+ and be calm and gentle with Dylan.
Dylan loves a good walk and he will trot along at a reasonable pace. He’s great on the lead but his recall isn’t reliable. He will sometimes answer to a whistle if there’s a treat on offer! He can only be let off the lead in an enclosed, safe area.
He likes to play a game of Dylan’s Rules Hide-and-Seek with his toy: he hides the toy and then barks to signal that you need to find and move it, and he then finds it and barks!
Dylan would enjoy living with one person or a couple where he can attach himself to someone and become their shadow. He likes to sleep on the sofa during the day. At night he will either sleep in his own bed or yours.
Dylan is neutered, microchipped, wormed and flea treated. He has cataracts in both eyes but the vet feels no treatment is necessary. A blood test revealed that Dylan had raised liver enzymes, but nothing could be seen when this was investigated. He is taking Protexin Denamarin liver support tablet once a day and needs this for the rest of his life; it can be bought without a prescription.
He has just had a biopsy taken of a lump that is near his bottom; we are awaiting the results. His foster carer has since found a couple of small lumps on/near his shoulder that will need checking. He is due a second vaccination on 14th October and we hope to move him to a Foster-to-Adopt home soon after that.
His foster carer says “Dylan is cheeky, chilled, happy and mischievous. Dylan has been a delight to foster and has never made a mistake in the house. He has made us laugh every single day. He will enrich anyone’s life.”
