Duchess is a lovely Shepherd cross of around 8 years old. She really looks like a miniature German Shepherd but is about the size of a Collie. Sadly, she was a long-term resident in a Romanian shelter in a dilapidated block of cages that floods every time it rains. To be in this part of the shelter for any time at all is appalling, but to have remained in there for years is nothing short of tragic. Happily, she is now in a foster home in Gorleston, Norfolk, and in the care of Safe Rescue until her special owner takes her home.

Understandably, Duchess is a very shy and sad girl who has been through a lot and has wasted far too much of her life locked up in a shelter with no hope for anything better. Now she is making steady progress in her foster home. After spending much of the first few weeks in hiding, she has gradually begun to appear more and more.

Duchess now readies herself for walks and dinner-time. She also now enjoys a potter in the garden and has also begun to join her carers in the lounge. She is generally looking more relaxed and starting to realise her life is changing for the better. Duchess won’t yet approach for fuss but is more tolerant of being touched and even beginning to enjoy it.

Duchess likes her walks and is good on the lead, but she prefers quieter places. Loud traffic frightens her, but she recovers quickly when it has passed. She is looking for a quiet home, preferably with another quiet dog who enjoys pottering, although she may be okay as an only dog. She will need time, patience and understanding to help her to continue her progress.

Duchess is a very special dog whose aura of sadness simply makes you want to work tirelessly to fix everything for her. It will take time, but one day in the right home she will leave the ghosts of her past behind and it will be her time to shine.

Duchess is neutered, microchipped and an adoption fee and home check apply.
