Soppy Skyla is a 10 year old Labrador cross in the care of Rescue Remedies, at their boarding kennels in Gatwick, West Sussex. She previously lived with two other dogs but didn’t get on with one of them. She could possibly share her home with a compatible dog. She’s pretty miserable in kennels but as soon as she’s outside, she’s full of joy!

The only thing Skyla loves more than rolling in the grass is getting cuddles. This is something all the volunteer dog walkers comment on.

One walker said, “Skyla is a sweetheart who loves a fuss and a cuddle. She didn’t really fancy walking very far, so we only got halfway up the lane, but she was happy pottering and sniffing and then sitting in the car park catching the few rays of sunshine we had this afternoon. On her way back to her kennel, I thought I’d see if she fancied a little pad about in the paddock. Was lovely to see her jumping and splashing about in the mud, covering me in the process! Was a little sad to return her to her kennel.”

Another said, “I love spending time with Skyla. She is such a funny girl, knows what she wants and is delightfully entertaining. Her first love is people and she will always gravitate to the car park and picnic bench first to see if anyone is around for cuddles. She will ask for cuddles from everyone she see’s and delights in the attention, her tail wagging and her whole body wriggling with joy. After cuddles Skyla likes to go to the grassy area and spend some time sniffing around and rolling in the long grass.”

Skyla has had a few respite weekends as a house guest of a couple of volunteers. One said, “It has been really good having Skyla to stay for a long weekend. She is a really sweet girl who is happy with some food in her belly, a walk and a comfy spot to sleep.

“Skyla is not very food focussed. When I’ve been making food she just stands and watches, titling her head at the different sounds. She seemed confused by a few things so I wonder if she’s had a sheltered life.

“Skyla is very quiet. She’s barked at the postman, a few other dogs on walks and I don’t think I heard another peep except her snoring. She’s had a few accidents here and there but she’s got better as the weekend has gone by.

“The rest of our time was spent quietly observing activities around the house/drive. When she went back to her kennel she was willing, but made sad whines as I closed the door.”

Skyla is spayed, microchipped and fully vaccinated. It’s believed she is slightly dispraxic (making her a bit more goofy than your average Lab). Also, her occasional accidents might be a permanent feature. You can see from the video above that she did a couple of impromptu wees outside and then looked up all worried. Her respite foster carer obviously didn’t mind so the key things you’ll need are love, understanding and hard floors. Quick access to the garden will help too, as you can see she wants desperately to be good!
