19/8/21 – Our big Bobby-dazzler has gone off to his new home!

————-

Gorgeous big Bobby is an 11-year-old Dobermann x Greyhound boy who came into the Oldies Club rescue because his owner was moving to accommodation where dogs aren’t allowed. How very sad. Bobby is in an Oldies Club foster home in Whitley Bay, Tyne & Wear, waiting for someone to offer him a permanent home.

Good boy in foster: Bobby took 2-3 days to settle at his foster home and he’s been a really good boy. He’s a big lad at just under 2ft at the shoulder. We aren’t sure of his weight but his foster carer thinks he must be between 25 and 30 kilos.

Can be left: Bobby has been fine when left on his own for a few hours. He needs a home with people around a fair amount of the time though so can’t live with full-time, out-at-work workers.

OK with calm dogs: Bobby is wary of dogs at first but he should be OK to live with a compatible calm dog.

Needs a home without cats: Bobby can’t live with cats.

Very good with children: Bobby is excellent with children, even young ones, but he is a big dog and gets excited when visitors arrive so would be better in a home with older children who won’t get knocked over!

Lovely walking companion: Bobby likes a walk but doesn’t require a great deal of exercise. He is currently having two 30-minute walks per day. In true greyhound style he hates the rain! He is very good on the lead but is wary of strange dogs and will lunge if they get too close. Off the lead he just ignores other dogs. His recall is good but in fact he never moves far away your side. What a good boy.

Not fond of the car: Bobby is very anxious in the car and this needs working on. He seems best travelling secured on the back seat with a human companion, rather than being on his own in the back. Having a window slightly open helps too. Giving him a Kong with food that is difficult to get out easily is a good distraction for him.

Bobby’s favourite pastimes: Lounging on the settee, preferably with a human. Sunbathing. Eating – everything, anywhere, at any time!

Bobby’s dislikes: Rain. He’s not too fond of a bath either.

Bobby’s ideal home: A quieter home where he can spend plenty of time with you.

Health notes: Bobby is neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, wormed and flea treated. He has no health issues other than a lump on his underside but this has been checked out by the vet and is a just a benign fatty lump, so nothing to worry about.

More from Bobby’s foster carer: Bobby is a big, heavy boy but very much a gentle giant with a lovely nature.

If you would like to offer Bobby a permanent home, please read our Adoption Procedures for information about the adoption process. You can then contact an Oldies Club rehoming co-ordinator as follows:

Email: rehome@oldies.org.uk
Telephone: 0844 586 8656

Bobby can be rehomed anywhere on the UK mainland – the closer to his foster home the better though, subject to a satisfactory home visit. Note that you will be required to travel to the foster home to collect him.

If you would love to offer a home to an oldie but your circumstances aren’t suitable, perhaps you would be kind enough to sponsor one of the special oldies we are caring for that, due to health problems, are unlikely to be offered a permanent home.
