13/9/21 – We are delighted to hear from Friends of Akitas that after his Old Dog of the Week appearance, Merlin has found a new home and he is settling in well with his new older Akita sister!

—————-

Sunny-natured Merlin is a smaller than average Akita boy, believed to be about 7. He’s in the care of Friends of Akitas Trust UK at their kennels in Nottinghamshire. He needs a home where he’ll have human company most of the time and any periods alone are built up gradually. Even in the kennel environment his gentle, affectionate manner is obvious to all who meet him, especially when they have treats. What a good boy!

Merlin was an unclaimed stay so his history is unknown but he’s shown himself to be a true gentleman. When meeting other dogs he wants to play and it’s thought he could live with a friendly female after happy introductions. He can’t live with cats though. He spent a week in foster and it was found that he got distressed when his foster carer went out, even though there was a resident dog for company. He wasn’t destructive but he paced up and down, refusing to settle, so he was obviously stressed. Where would his next meal come from without his human?!

He needs work on his lead walking as he likes to zig-zag from good smell to good smell. He is very food oriented and very bright so training should be fairly easy. He hasn’t met any children since being in rescue so any in the home would need to be dog savvy teenagers. He loves getting fuss from everyone!

Merlin is neutered, fully vaccinated and microchipped. He’s house-trained and altogether a lovely, happy dog. The more people that tell him so, the happier he is!
