18/4/2022 – Coco has found a home!

Coco is a 10-year-old Chihuahua Cross who is with Stokenchurch Dog Rescue because her owners moved house and unfortunately Coco didn’t settle. When they went back to work after lockdown, Coco developed separation anxiety.

Coco needs an adult-only home where she is your only pet, with people who are around most of the time, and a secure garden with 4 foot fencing. She can be rehomed with 50 miles of Stokenchurch.

Poor Coco is not coping well in kennels and is showing signs of separation anxiety, such as whining. When Coco is out and about she is a fun, loveable dog who loves nothing more than to have a fuss, play with her favourite toys, and go on adventures to places she can explore.

Please only enquire about Coco if you have experience of dogs with separation anxiety. This is especially important as Coco has shown fear-aggressive behaviour when she is going to be put somewhere she doesn’t want to go, or if she anticipates she is about to be left, for example when going back to her kennel. When Coco visits the vets she needs to be muzzled, as she becomes incredibly distressed and will react through fear.

Coco is still very active and needs at least 1-2 hours of exercise a day, including a run around a fully-enclosed garden where she can play with her toys (her favourite being a ball) and release some energy. Coco will pull when she first goes out for a walk, but she does start to walk nicely during the walk. She loves exploring new places and taking in all the surrounding fauna.

Coco does not seem to know any commands but is a bright girl who could learn. She will benefit from having an owner who will work on her separation anxiety. She also needs to be taught reliable recall before she can be allowed off lead in open areas.

When Coco first arrived she was very unsettled and did not want to eat, however now she is eating her meals is very well mannered when doing so. She also loves a tasty treat, which will be a great way to build a bond with her as well as help motivate her to learn new skills.

Coco needs a home where she is your only dog. She is okay walking past dogs at close range but prefers them to stay out of her personal space. She might snap at them if they come too close.

She needs owners who are around the majority of the time as she becomes distressed when left alone. Her new home must have a garden with at least 4 foot fencing. With the right people/person, Coco will make a great addition and a fantastic companion.

Stokenchurch Dog Rescue’s adoption fee for Coco is £140 and she can be rehomed only within a 50-mile radius of the rescue. For details of their adoption process, click here.
