27/5/2022 It’s taken a little while to find that perfect home for beautiful Lacey, but she’s now happily enjoying life with her forever family.

Beautiful Lacey is a 16 year old Lab X Dalmatian who came into the Oldies Club rescue after her owner sadly passed away. She’s in a foster home in Luton, Bedfordshire while she waits for her retirement home.

Doing well in foster: You might remember that Lacey was previously featured with her sister, Sheriff. Unfortunately Sheriff became very unwell and wasn’t going to improve so the difficult decision was made to put her to sleep. Lacey has coped amazingly well and is still managing to enjoy life thanks to her foster carers’ love.

Can be left for 2 hours: Lacey really likes company and wants a home where someone is with her most of the time but she can be left to snooze by herself for a couple of hours occasionally.

Only dog is best: Lacey was obviously used to sharing her home with her sister all her life and it’s just possible that she could share again, provided the other dog was relaxed, not interested in Lacey’s toys and was happy for her to be top dog. That’s a tall order though and Lacey is very happy getting all the attention so it’s thought she’d better be an only dog.

No cats: Lacey will protect your garden from cats because she has very strong views about them.

Sensible, older children only: Lacey does love to play and she’s a really sweet girl however, she does need lots of peace and quiet. Calm, considerate children from age 12 might be OK for her.

Prefers garden time to walks: Lacey is a bit arthritic and wasn’t on any medication for it before coming into the Oldies Club rescue so she was pretty stiff. Apparently she didn’t used to go out for walks, just had a potter in the garden. Her mobility is improving with pain relief but she does seem to be content with plenty of garden time throughout the day. If you put her on the lead it needs to be clipped onto a comfy harness rather than a collar as she’s not used to how that feels.

Good in the car: Lacey is well behaved in the car but does find it scary.

Favourite pastimes: Playing ball in the garden, snuffling in the garden, lounging in the garden and snoozing in bed.

Dislikes: The existence of cats.

Ideal adopter: A retired person or couple with a big garden, who just wants a loving and laid-back companion. If they have a selection of toys, balls and dog beds about the house, especially in the kitchen, that would be lovely too!

Health notes: Lacey is microchipped, wormed and flea-treated. She is not spayed and is too old to go through the surgery. A recent blood test showed that Lacey has some liver changes, but it was decided not to put her through further tests due to her age. She has painkillers twice a day for her arthritis and an anti-inflammatory once a day. She’s happy to take these with some liver pâté. She does love her food, nom nom nom!

More from her foster carer: “Lacey is curious, affectionate, hilarious and young at heart. Please don’t let her age fool you. Once she settled into our home, she came out of her shell and has shown us that age is just a number. Lacey is so chatty, she’s adorable. She’s doing really well. She loves a good game of ball. She’s actually bouncy like a rabbit sometimes!”

If you would like to offer Lacey a permanent home, please read our Adoption Procedures for information about the adoption process. You can then contact an Oldies Club rehoming co-ordinator as follows:

Email: rehome@oldies.org.uk
Telephone: 0844 586 8656

She can be rehomed anywhere on the UK mainland – the closer to her foster home the better though, subject to a satisfactory home visit. Note that you will be required to travel to the foster home to collect her.

If you would love to offer a home to an oldie but your circumstances aren’t suitable, perhaps you would be kind enough to sponsor one of the special oldies we are caring for that, due to health problems, are unlikely to be offered a permanent home.
