19/04/2022: Gunner has been adopted having been spotted on Oldies Club! Hooray!

Gunner is a 10-year-old Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever (a Toller for short). He came to Rescue Remedies as his owner wasn’t well enough to care for him anymore. He’s now at their boarding kennels near Gatwick on the Surrey/West Sussex boarder.

One volunteer walker said, “Gunner is a very gentle, quiet, friendly boy. He was a little nervous when I went in to see him, so I just stood still while he sniffed me up and down. He was accepting of some gentle fuss under his chin and happy for me to clip on the leads. He walked so calmly by my side at a gentle pace, taking the time to stop for sniffs. He is a little star!”

He recently had a respite stay with another RR helper. They said, “Gunner has come for a weekend stay with me. He travelled brilliantly in the car, lying down most of the way. On arriving, he checked out the accommodation and settled down in front of the sofa for a snooze. So far he’s been a perfect and very easy companion.

“Gunner slept well last night, choosing to sleep in the dog bed in the living room. He didn’t stir until I got up at around 7.30. He’s been clean in the house. He’s a very calm and quiet dog. He’s undemanding though grateful for any affection offered. He greeted 2 workmen in a gentle and friendly manner – he loves people.

“Gunner is always ready for a walk when I pick up his lead and he walks on a slack lead with no pulling. Back inside he will lie down somewhere close by and doze – he is a very easy dog to have around. Gunner had a social walk with his new friend Dolly today and charmed lots of people at the garden/shopping centre.

“Another lovely day with Gunner. He accompanied me in the car on a number of errands and was just perfect. We went on a few walks with his friend Dolly, who he’s always keen to meet up with.

“This time Dolly’s housemate – a cat – came for the stroll too, and Gunner couldn’t have been less interested in it, even when it came quite close.

“In fact Gunner has shown no interest in the ducks or sheep we’ve come across either.”

“Gunner has been a fabulous companion – he lets you get on with things around him and is content to watch from his dog bed. He’s happy with a stroll and doesn’t require long energetic walks (he doesn’t pull on the lead at all). He deserves a retirement home and will be no trouble at all to the lucky person who adopts him.”
