8-year-old Polly is a small, rough-coated Terrier who is with Chilterns Dog Rescue Society in Tring, Hertfordshire.

Pretty Polly arrived as a stray, so no prior information is available about her. Initially she was very withdrawn and unsure of herself, but with love and care, Polly’s affectionate and gentle nature has gradually become increasingly evident.

Lovely Polly enjoys the company of people. She walks happily with other dogs at the rescue centre and is good on the lead. She clearly enjoys getting out and about but needs to gain a little more experience and confidence, which should come with encouragement and kindly guidance.

Although gentle and not highly energetic, Polly is a terrier and, once she has found the security of a permanent home, she may become more active – as terriers usually are. As an (estimated) 8-year-old dog of this type, Polly should have a surprising amount of energy for some years to come and will make an excellent companion.

Polly would love a quieter home with a secure garden to explore. Regular walks, occasional trips out by car, lots of fuss, and not too much time left alone would meet her needs perfectly. It is unknown whether she has experience with cats or children, but she could live as the only pet in the home or with a compatible friend.

In the short time Polly has been at CDRS, she has had various medical interventions to help her achieve a happy retirement. Two mammary tumours were removed and the histology indicates that because a good margin of other tissue was removed, these should not present a further problem. Having been spayed may help further lumps from developing but, just to be sure, she will need to be monitored regularly. Polly also has a grade 3 heart murmur but this does not yet require medication and does not cause her any issues. Polly will have a scale and polish so her teeth are in the best possible condition before she moves to her forever home.

It appears that life has not been very kind to Polly, but she is repaying the love and care she is now receiving from CDRS staff and vets and she is often to be found helping in the office as this photo with one of the volunteers shows.

She is a delightful dog and very deserving of finding a special someone who understands her needs. Could you offer pretty Polly a lovely fresh start?
