31/7/23 – Reuben has found a home!

Thankfully, Reuben was brought into the care of Safe Rescue from the Botosani public shelter in Romania. He was completely shutdown and just a shell after spending around six or seven years there.
Reuben has been in care for around a year and is now fostered in Norwich, Norfolk. Although he’s come a long way, he will continue to progress and grow in confidence in his new, forever home. Such previous trauma takes a while to unravel.
Reuben is around 9 years old and is a small to medium-sized Crossbreed with a kind of Whippet build. Initially, he would snap if touched because he was so scared of human hands. He was terrified of everything and everyone but now enjoys his walks, shows great excitement at food time and displays amazing happy dances when his “people” come home or get up in the morning.
Reuben can now be stroked under duress; he has a fuss for a few seconds before he has breakfast and a few times lately a wagging tail has been glimpsed and he’s enjoyed a bum scratch! It’s baby steps all the way with this quirky little boy but each progression means the world to his carers. He will get there and he will be worth all the input.
Reuben would like the company of another quiet dog or dogs. He gets on fine with cats and has lived with them amicably in a foster home. He will need a fairly quiet, calm environment where he can enjoy nice walks. Reuben is happy to be left at home for reasonable periods of time and travels well in a car. He will need a home with no children under twelve; he would be okay with visiting children as long as he had a safe space to call his own.
Reuben vaccinated, microchipped and neutered.
Note: Safe Rescue have a policy that all dogs adopted from them must wear a slip lead on walks for the duration of their lives. Please only enquire about Safe Rescue dogs if you are happy to always use a slip lead – extendable leads are not acceptable to Safe Rescue. All dogs have to be collected and a crate must be used.
