Churchill is an adorable 13 year old Golden Retriever boy who came into the Oldies Club rescue due to the deteriorating health of his owner. Churchill is in a foster home in Pevensey Bay, East Sussex, waiting for someone to offer him a wonderful new home.

A very good boy: Churchill is a dream of an oldie who took less than a week to settle in to his foster home. The photos below were taken after he had a trip to the groomer. What a stunning boy he is!

Can be left: After a couple of weeks in foster, Churchill realised that when his carers left him alone at home they would soon be coming back. He has been left for 3 to 4 hours with no problem. Churchill would be fine to live with a part-time worker, but preference is usually given to a home where someone is around most of the time.

Very good with dogs: This gorgeous boy is very docile and he is friendly with other dogs of all sizes.

Unknown with cats: Churchill hasn’t encountered a cat since being in foster care so we don’t know how he is with them.

Good with children: Churchill has been used to having grandchildren visit his home and he has been very good with them. He might prefer a home where children only visit though as being an older boy he does appreciate the quieter things in life.

Enjoys regular walks: Churchill is having three or four walks per day. He probably covers about 2 or 3 miles altogether over the day. He’s fine to walk for about half an hour at a time. He enjoys being out and he follows along well, sniffing as he goes. He responds well to ‘wait‘. The main reason Churchill likes to go out is that he loves meeting other dogs and people. He’s a sociable teddy bear and loves it when he meets people he knows, who call him ‘Churchie’!

Fabulous in the car: Churchill is excellent in the car. He settles on the back seat and happily goes off to sleep. He does need a bit of assistance getting into the car though.

Churchill’s favourite pastimes: Rolling in the grass. Being groomed by his foster carer.

His ideal home: In his former home, Churchill was used to living on just the ground floor with his owner; and his foster home is a bungalow. He happily sleeps in his own bed in the kitchen from about 11pm to 9am, so would be fine to do this in a home with an upstairs, but it would probably be best if he doesn’t have to negotiate lots of steps in the garden or approaching the property.

Health notes: Churchill is neutered, vaccinated, microchipped and has had worm and flea treatment. He arrived with an ear infection which has been treated, but he is prone to them, so regular ear cleaning will be needed for Churchie. He has had a dental and had a few teeth removed. Churchill has started having pain medication for his joints and this seems to be giving him a new lease of life.

More from his foster carer:Churchill is a very friendly boy who loves to be groomed and he loves people and other dogs. When we first took on Churchill we were informed he was on dry food for digestive problems. We have put him on tinned food which he loves with biscuits. He loves his food now. We were also told he only walked half an hour a day, but he loves his walks across the fields and on the beach, weather depending! All in all he’s a big softy and will give loads of pleasure to his forever home.

If you would love to offer a home to an oldie but your circumstances aren’t suitable, perhaps you would be kind enough to sponsor one of the special oldies we are caring for that, due to health problems, are unlikely to be offered a permanent home.
