Rufus is a big hairy 7-year-old who is with Love Underdogs in Waltham Abbey, Essex.

Rufus is looking for a very calm, adult-only home where he is your only pet. He’s originally from Spain, where he was found in a bin as a puppy. Poor Rufus! He came to the UK for adoption, but sadly his loving home had a baby and it was too much for Rufus to cope with. They did what was best for Rufus, which was to give him a chance to find a home in a suitable environment.

This gorgeous boy is great with people but he suffers with compulsive behaviour which means that stresses lead to shadow chasing and pacing. He needs a simple life, so that he doesn’t become overstimulated, plus lots of love and understanding from his people. He will thrive with people who are experienced with sensitive dogs, or willing to learn, and are relaxed and accommodating, truly wanting to make a difference for this sweet boy. His new home will need direct access to a private garden.

Although he goes on walks with other dogs, Rufus will be best in a home as an only pet. He is a very loving dog who adores his walks and people. He walks well on lead and he does find the lead reassuring. He has a lot of anxieties and needs special people who will be attentive to his needs, patient and compassionate. To help his OCD, Rufus needs a strong routine, with very few changes to his day, and not too many visitors in the home. He has had some training, and knows Sit, Down and Paw. He walks on a loose lead, and has recall, but he will not want to be off lead. He loves being busy with puzzles and mental games, and he likes to have relaxation time with the team. His previous owner said of him that he is like living with a big cuddly teddy bear when he feels safe, which is so right.

Rufus weighs 29kg. He takes medication to help with anxiety and also pain management for his joints and a cruciate ligament he had surgery on. Love Underdogs will offer Rufus on a medical contract were they would cover costs should he require surgery on his hips or his knee, although it is unlikely.

This boy is a beautiful, sensitive soul with so much love to give. He will be a very rewarding dog for people wanting to help a dog have a happy and relaxing life, which is difficult to achieve in kennels. Rufus needs a home more than most of the Underdogs, and so the rescue hope he will soon find his happy place. You will need to be able to visit Rufus a couple of times before taking him home on a trial basis.

Could you offer Rufus an adult home with a steady and calm routine?
