Soppy boys Scoobie & Yogie are a pair of Lurchers of about 8 years. They’re looking for a retirement home together through Rescue Remedies. They currently spend most of their time at boarding kennels near Gatwick on the Surrey/West Sussex border but, when possible, they have respite foster breaks in London. Safe to say, they travel OK in the car!

Scoobie and Yogie want a cat-free home with no young children. Older, dog-savvy children should be OK for them. It’s unknown whether they could live with another dog. It might be possible after careful introductions and some mooch about walks together but it’s not a certainty.

One of the volunteer dog walkers at Rescue Remedies said, “I walked Yogie for the first time on Sunday (and David took my usual dog Scoobie out) and once they had calmed down with the excitement from knowing they are going out they are two totally chilled-out dogs. Both have great Lurcher temperaments – ’twas a bit cooler so went on a longer walk although I’m not sure you could ever wear these two out- these two are such an easy walk and are both star Lurchers.”

Another said, “They are a dream to walk, once they are over their initial excitement when greeting you. Not dog reactive, not traffic reactive, not people reactive, not particularly interested in squirrels. Perfect! Yogie can be dog reactive if another dog has a bark at him but is getting much better. They love contact and will sidle up to you for strokes even when they are in the paddock which does take away from zoomie time – Scoobie in particular loves doing zoomies.”

Their respite foster carer says, “A lot of people came for dinner and Scoobie met them all nicely. Yogie is a bit nervous of men to start with but he came round with some treats. Scoobie stayed in the dining room on the off chance of some food while Yogie went for a sleep on the sofa.

“Both dogs were great with our nephew aged 8 who walked and ran with Scoobie. Today we had a hideous 7 hour drive back. The boys were so good – they travel really well on the car (despite it being a fiat 500 and them being a bit too big to fit comfortably!). They have eaten and are now lap dogs on the sofa. Lovely boys!

“They are super easy to walk. Yogie doesn’t love other dogs coming up to him but is helped by the fact that Scoobie likes to meet every dog! They don’t pull at all. They are free and easy with their affection and meet new people with curiosity and calmness. In short, they are a joyful, affectionate pair!

“They are experts at giving cuddles and seem to think they are lap dogs despite their size. They are also lounging lurchers. There’s always a race to get a spot on the sofa (which Scoobie tends to win), but they are very good natured about making room.

“They are complete kleptomaniacs! And very skilled ones. Things we have found in their beds so far include pans, slippers, trainers, hats – but again are always more than happy to surrender their prizes.”

These beautiful, biddable gentlemen are clean in the house and very easy to live with, since they mostly like to snooze.

The only thing you have to be careful of, is leaving your own food within reach as they are quick to take the opportunity of a supplemental snack, clever boys!
