Rupert is a very handsome boy, currently being fostered in Norwich, Norfolk, under the care of Safe Rescue. They are really hoping to find a wonderful home where he can thrive and learn to live the life he deserves.
He is approximately 8 yrs old, originating from Romania, and whilst he looks like a soppy Labrador, he holds memories and stories of his past life, that will take time to put behind him.
He is described as a “determined old goat!” which is probably a reflection of this life, where he no doubt spent time wandering and could go where he pleased. He is now having to get used to a lead and going where his humans would prefer. He has just about got used to this, accepting that this is the norm in his new life.
He will test boundaries when he is able, so a new home that perhaps has experience of such behaviour would be helpful. At present he is only going on short walks, as when Rupert decides he has had enough, he will lie down and not budge. When this happens, there is not a lot you can do, but wait until he is ready to move on ! Of course, it’s early days and once he has learnt to trust, and realise his new life is one of love and kindness, things should change.
On arrival in his foster home he tried everything to find a way out, and only when he saw that his old legs would not get him over the 5ft fence, did he take himself off for a snooze. This should be expected in the early days when he arrives in his forever home , so a secure garden is a must for Rupert.
He lives with cats and seems pretty oblivious to them, likewise with other dogs, he could live with either, or be an only dog in the home.
A calm, adult home is preferred for Rupert, with not too much activity, and whilst he doesn’t shy away from affection, he is not at present looking for attention or cuddles. This gorgeous boy has a lot of history behind him, so it’s not surprising he is as he is, however, whoever is able to give him the time, love and trust he is seeking, will no doubt be rewarded with a fabulous companion.
Safe Rescue have a policy that all dogs adopted from them must wear a slip lead on walks. Please only enquire about Safe Rescue dogs if you are happy to always use a slip lead – extendable leads are not acceptable to Safe Rescue. All dogs have to be collected and a crate must be used. Full details of their rehoming policy are on Roger’s page here.
