Delightful Daisy is an 11 year old, tri-coloured Hound (probably Beagle/Foxhound Cross) and is medium sized, weighing around 23kg. She is spayed, microchipped, flea and worm treated and has a history of vaccinations. Daisy will be rehomed with 5 weeks’ free pet insurance and is currently living in foster care arranged by Wonky Pets Rescue in Swadlincote, Derbyshire, who are now seeking her forever home.

On arrival, it was noted that Daisy was drinking excessively, literally draining huge water bowls. She was immediately checked by the Vets who diagnosed CDI (Central Diabetes Insipidus), a condition where the dog fails to produce or release enough antidiuretic hormone (ADH) causing excessive thirst and urination. It’s not the same as diabetes mellitus and is much easier to manage with medication. Almost instantly her symptoms improved and are now really under control. It’s made such a huge difference to her. The oral form of medication she currently takes costs around £50 every 5 weeks and the Rescue are happy to discuss supporting a new owner with these associated costs long-term if needed (there is a cheaper topical treatment but it’s currently out of stock everywhere).

Daisy is such a lovely girl. She may be older, but she is still very much a fit and active girl. She loves being in the paddock running around with the other dogs. She is a hound of course and has those strong hound traits in her so her recall is okay unless there is something better to sniff and a walk on a long line is safest with her.

Daisy is a friendly, affectionate and loving girl with everyone she has met. She loves a fuss and a cuddle on the sofa. She is a good girl inside the home and hasn’t been destructive. Daisy is also a typical Hound when it comes to food and would probably eat all day if you let her, so it’s important that she maintains her perfect weight and her doe eyes asking for treats and titbits isn’t succumbed to!

Daisy sleeps quietly downstairs at night without a peep but can get a little anxious when you first go out and can get herself a bit worked up, but she does settle. She will need a home where someone is at home a lot of the time as she loves having company and would be great for an active, retired person or if you work from home. Daisy needs a home with a nice safe garden for her to play in and with someone fit and active enough to provide her with good length daily walks.

Daisy walks okay on the lead, travels really well in the car and is happy to jump in and be harnessed on the back seat. She is great with the vet too. Daisy has always lived with other dogs and is very dog friendly; she has come into a large mixed pack without issue. The Rescue would consider homing Daisy with another placid, medium to large sized dog (another hound would be perfect) or a home where she is the only dog, but she must have lots of human company. She is best homed without cats but is very good around equines and livestock, so a rural home with a bit of space would be absolutely great for her.

Daisy isn’t used to living with children and whilst there are no concerns around her temperament and being around young visiting children, given her advancing age she would prefer a slightly quieter home with any resident children being 7 years plus.
