Billy is a stunningly gorgeous 9 year old long-haired German Shepherd boy who came into the Oldies Club dog rescue because his owner was in poor health and was going into a home. Billy is in a foster home in Northampton, waiting for someone to offer him a loving permanent home.

An adorable boy in foster: Beautiful Billy settled at his foster home within 48 hours. He is a very good boy and whoever gets to adopt him will be very lucky indeed.

Can be left for a few hours: When he’s left on his own, Billy happily goes to sleep or eats any remaining dog food that is left in his dog bowl. He is a good boy and simply awaits your return. Billy would be fine to live with a part-time worker, and he could be left longer occasionally, provided he had a garden break halfway through the day.

Likes medium and large dogs: Billy doesn’t like small dogs and isn’t keen on staffies, but he adores any other dogs and he only barks if they bark at him first. He would enjoy living with another dog – a medium or large dog – provided they got on well when they met.

Cat-free home essential: Billy hates cats and definitely can’t live with them and shouldn’t be let off his lead near cats. However he seems good with all other small furry animals.

Love children: Billy loves children and could live with well-trained ones aged 5 upwards.

Very good on walks: Billy loves his walks and is a good boy on the lead other than pulling slightly when he first sets off or if he sees a cat. In the warm weather he prefers early and late walks — currently he’s going early at around 6am, and then around 8-9pm when it cools off, for about 30 minutes each walk. Billy has excellent recall with a man, once he has settled in and bonded, and he will listen to a woman if a man isn’t around! He is a good boy and doesn’t wander far from you.

Loves a car ride: Billy is good in the car and loves to go for an outing, but he might bark when the car is parked or stopped and he will lean over seats to get to fresh air if a window is open in front of him.

Billy’s favourite pastimes: Walking, sleeping, playing, being around people, being fussed, and being let off the lead when walking.

Billy’s ideal home: Billy will settle well in a house with a male figure as he bonds better with men. He wants a family that likes walking, who wouldn’t leave him for more than half a day, and that has prior experience of big dogs. He would love it if you would take him away with you on walking days. You will need to enjoy grooming long-haired dogs. He needs a cat-free home, but he doesn’t take any notice of other small furry animals, including rodents, rabbits etc. so could live in perfect harmony with any animals except cats.

Health notes: Billy is neutered, vaccinated, microchipped and has been wormed and flea treated. He is in very good health and has no current issues at all.

Billy’s foster carer told us: Billy is friendly, obedient, loyal and gentle. He does require grooming daily, and this can take up to half an hour or so, and expect a lot of fur loss during the moulting seasons. He is partial to a few dog biscuits after his walks (as a treat) and he does like lots of fuss and attention. He is a very loving and friendly dog and will be a wonderfully loyal dog in the right family.

If you would love to offer a home to an oldie but your circumstances aren’t suitable, perhaps you would be kind enough to sponsor one of the special oldies we are caring for that, due to health problems, are unlikely to be offered a permanent home.
