Poor Danny originally came from a kill pound in Bucharest. Luckily, he was rescued and spent almost two years in a private shelter in Romania before coming to the U.K. for a chance at finding a loving home. He is currently enjoying life in a foster home near Liskeard, Cornwall, and is seeking a home in the South West or South Wales region.
Danny is a medium-large Crossbreed (22kg), affectionately known as ‘Danny Bear’ for his bear-like face and love of hugs. He is estimated at 8-10 years, though he doesn’t seem to know that as he’s very active and in great health. Danny is a gentle soul who wants to please, but he is a strong and powerful dog who needs a large, secure garden, plenty of exercise and playtime, and people to love!
Danny is highly affectionate and absolutely adores people, so he would be a wonderful companion for a single person, couple or family with older teenagers. He is non-reactive on the lead, but can be bossy with other male dogs, though he has lived well with quiet females. He’s been good with the farm cats in his foster home, but may try to chase if they run, so we feel Danny would be best suited as an only pet, where he can be the centre of attention and enjoy all the affection he’s been missing during his time in shelter. Bouncy and enthusiastic about life, he loves attention, and wants nothing more than to climb into your lap if you let him.
Danny is housetrained, can be left without problems, walks well though a little strong on the lead, and is improving his basic training. As he is quite food motivated, his new owners will have no problem building on that. He travels well in the car and has a very sweet, loving nature.
Danny does have a minor issue with resource-guarding of toys – which he recently learned how to play with – or high value “fun things” he finds (such as cushions or the occasional newspaper), which is being worked on in foster care and which his new owners will need to continue helping him correct. He has not bitten or snapped at any point and is showing improvement, but, because of this behaviour, he will not be homed with children, or where he may come into contact with young kids. As with many ex-street dogs, he will counter-surf if food is left unattended.
Danny’s vaccinations, flea/worm treatment are all fully up-to-date. He is microchipped and he has been neutered. His pet passport and medical records (including recent bloods) are available, and he can be visited in foster care so potential adopters can get to know him and see just how incredibly loving this sweet boy is.
Danny is being rehomed privately by his foster carer, Kezia, who has confirmed that she would take him back if his new home didn’t work out for any reason. Prospective adopters will be home-checked.
