30/9/19 – Gizmo has gone to his new home!

Little Gizmo takes cuteness to a whole new level. He is an 11-year-old Chihuahua x Yorkshire Terrier boy who came into the Oldies Club rescue when his owner could no longer care for him. He is in an Oldies Club foster home in Chalfont St Peter, South Buckinghamshire, waiting for someone to offer him a permanent home.

A good boy in foster care: Gizmo settled at his foster home straight away. He is very clean in the house and is well behaved.

Enjoys company: Gizmo is OK to be left alone for a couple of hours when you need to go shopping or whatever, but he wouldn’t be happy in a working home.

Would prefer to be your only dog: Gizmo has previously been an only dog and he does enjoy one-to-one attention. He has been OK with the other dogs in his foster home but he can be quite bossy and has snapped at them on occasion. He would probably prefer to be your only dog.

Not used to cats: Gizmo isn’t used to living with cats and he chases them in the garden.

Hasn’t lived with children: Gizmo has never lived with children, and it’s probably a bit late for him to learn to live with youngsters. He should be fine with sensible older children visiting though who won’t pull him around. He might be cute but he isn’t a toy!

Enjoys walks: Gizmo enjoys a slow 20-minute walk twice a day and he is very good on the lead. We aren’t sure about his recall but he will do anything to get a treat! He does need to lose some weight so it is important that he goes for regular walks.

Good in the car: Yes he is a good traveller.

Gizmo’s favourite pastimes: Being made a fuss of; sitting with you; chasing a ball when he feels like playing, and he enjoys chasing pigeons.

Gizmo’s dislikes: The vacuum cleaner, but he is happy to leave the room when told.

Gizmo’s ideal home: With a retired person or couple, with a nice secure garden and lots of time to devote to him.

Health notes: Gizmo is neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, and has been wormed and flea treated. He has arthritis in his back legs, but manages very well on 1/2 a Rimadyl tablet per day. This treatment will be ongoing. He is also having Apoquel, for itchy skin, which seems to be working well and should be able to be stopped in a month or so.

More about Gizmo from his foster carer:Gizmo is very affectionate, intelligent, calm and a lovely companion. Gizmo deserves a secure loving home where he can settle and thrive. He would love to make someone feel special by making a big fuss of them. He likes to get on the furniture with you but he needs help getting up and down so that he doesn’t hurt himself. Encouraging him through diet and exercise to lose weight would also be very beneficial.

If you would love to offer a home to an oldie but your circumstances aren’t suitable, perhaps you would be kind enough to sponsor one of the special oldies we are caring for that, due to health problems, are unlikely to be offered a permanent home.
