17/11/2021: Scooby has been adopted! Hooray!

Scooby is a 13-year-old Collie x Labrador, with adorable white socks, who is at Raystede Centre for Animal Welfare in East Sussex. He has been there for quite a while as he doesn’t realise he’s an old boy and he is still very active and very playful. He doesn’t fit the brief for your typical old dog, and yet he doesn’t fit the brief for a young dog because he isn’t actually young. Such a dilemma for such a handsome lad!

Scooby is a friendly dog, who, as we mentioned, is VERY active and playful. He loves to play with footballs and tennis balls. He gets very excited when going out for walks and will grab his lead and shake it, so he needs people who are steady on their feet and able to manage this excitement. He is surprisingly strong too. He loves water and enjoys splashing about excitedly in paddling pools. But when the fun is over he loves to get cosy and settle down in his bed.

He is looking for an adult-only home. Due to poor eyesight, Scooby can be worried when there are other dogs around him. He needs to be the only dog in his new home, and also no cats. He is house trained but will mark initially just until he’s feeling settled. In the car he can be a bit vocal but he will settle down to travel. He seems anxious if left alone and he prefers to have lots of company and to be involved in everything you’re doing. His new home will need an enclosed garden for him to explore and enjoy. He is not suited to properties with lots of steps and stairs.

Scooby’s ideal home will be somewhere rural or quiet where he can explore lots of land or be walked in places with a low population of dogs. His eyesight and hearing is very poor, and though he seems able to cope just fine, you will need to consider the areas where you will walk him as he will be worried if there is a lot of activity or noises that may startle him. His joints are sore so he requires supplements and may soon require on-going pain medication to keep him comfortable, so the cost of this needs to be considered by his potential adopters.

This old lad is adored by the people at Raystede but he really does deserve to have a wonderful home of his own. Could you be the people he is waiting for?
