7/5/22 – Archie is on a home trial!
————

Affable Archie has come into the care of Chilterns Dog Rescue Society in Hertfordshire as an emergency when his owners had to move and could not take Archie with them. He had lived with the same family for most of his life and is now looking for a quiet home as an only pet.

Archie is a 12 year old black and white Staffie dog who is inoculated, microchipped and neutered. He is an affectionate boy who likes the company of people. He walks daily with other dogs at the Rescue Centre. He is generally quite neutral around other dogs but will occasionally pull across to say hello to any that take his fancy.

Despite his age, Archie does not act like a senior dog; he has bags of energy and enthusiasm. He loves his walks and can’t wait to go out in the morning. He can get a bit over-enthusiastic and pull quite strongly if allowed to do so, but he can also walk nicely on a short lead. He would be a great companion for someone familiar with this popular breed, albeit not one to just sit on the sofa and cuddle.

Archie would love to be offered a quieter home with a secure garden to explore. Regular walks, occasional trips out by car, lots of fuss and not too much time left alone would meet his needs perfectly. Having lived with a small child, he would probably be very happy to meet older children who visit.

In the short time Archie has been at CDRS, he has had various medical interventions to help him achieve a happy retirement. A good quality, complete diet has largely resolved the skin issues he arrived with and the new hair is growing through well. He has had a dental and his teeth are now in great condition. Two small lumps on his shoulder were investigated and, while the test on one was inconclusive, the other was found to be a malignant mast cell tumour. As a precaution, both lumps were surgically removed, with a good margin of normal tissue. Archie has recovered really well, but his new owner will need to be aware that it is difficult to predict what the short, medium or long term success of the surgery will be within Archie’s natural lifespan.
