Dooley is a fun-loving medium sized boy (26kg), said to be 11-years-old although his exact age is unknown and his activity levels are more like a younger dog. He’s in the care of Love Underdogs in Essex. Potential adopters will need to visit him a couple of times before having him on a home trial before adoption.
Dooley came to Love Underdogs through another rescue having been a street dog in Romania. He could be an only dog but he’d love to have a friendly female dog at home to help his confidence. He’s fine about meeting other dogs on walks and is happiest meeting the ladies!
He can live with cats but not children as he needs a peaceful home and owners who are considerate to his sensitivities. Some things are still new to him and he takes a while to adjust. His curious nature and sunny disposition do help but he needs to take things at his own pace and having some down time to process it all.
In many ways, Dooley is the perfect dog. He’s food orientated and loves his treats but he’s very polite when others are eating. He won’t pester you at meal times, trusting that he’ll get fed afterwards. He also respects other dogs eating their food. What a Good Boy!
Dooley is completely quiet in the house. He’s happy when he has access to a secure garden. He doesn’t pester for attention and he can be left for while with no issues at all. Once he’s bonded with you, when he feels ready, he’ll happily accept strokes, chest and belly rubs and will settle down at your feet when you’re on the sofa.
Dooley is also well behaved on walks and they are his favourite thing! He does a happy dance when it’s time to go. He’s fine about having his collar and lead put on. His harness, which is more comfy for him, is easily put on once he trusts you.
He walks nicely on the lead. If he starts to pull with enthusiasm, one corrective tug is all it takes for him to settled down to your pace. He only walks on the left of his walk though. If you put him on the right hand side, within a few paces he’ll move back to the left! What he really loves is some off lead zoomies in a secure area.
Dooley is neutered, microchipped and vet checked. You might have noticed his tongue sticking out quite often. That’s because he doesn’t have any teeth. He manages perfectly well without them and – combined with his one ear up, one ear down – it adds to his loveable goofiness!
