Fudge is a loyal Border Terrier Mix who came into the Oldies Club rescue due to his owner sadly passing away. He is approximately 14 – 15 years old and weighs just 8 kilos. Fudge is in a foster home in Woking, Surrey, and hoping to find his perfect forever home soon. You can watch a video of him here.

At home: Not surprisingly, it took Fudge around 4 – 5 weeks to settle and feel comfortable in his foster home. He is not keen on being left alone for a few hours as he likes to be close to his carers. Fudge would not be happy in a home with full-time workers and a walk or garden break at lunchtime. He sleeps in his open cage with his duvet or on a dog bed, though he will sleep on your bed if you let him!

Okay with dogs: Fudge tends to bark a lot at other dogs when on the lead but otherwise does seem to want to play. He has been fine with other dogs when he has been in doggy day care.

Unknown with cats: Being a terrier, Fudge would likely enjoy a good chase with any cat, but it is not known if he could live with one and probably needs a cat-free home.

Children: Fudge could possibly live with older, dog-savvy children but he has not met any in his foster home, so it’s not known and he probably would be suited to an adult-only environment.

Out and about: Fudge likes walking on the lead. He tends to be quite slow as every blade of grass has its attractions and deserves a sniff. He wears a harness as sometimes he needs a soft tug to remind him to get going. At the moment, he has a walk of around 2km or 20/30 minutes twice or three times a day.

Travel: Fudge is excellent travelling in the car.

Fudge’s favourite pastimes: He does love to have a good snooze; walks which are great for a nose-down mooch outside and food, but he has to stick to a GI special diet which he is good with.

Dislikes: Fudge can be defensive with other dogs when he’s on the lead. He’s not frightened, just defensive.

Fudge’s ideal home: A quiet, calm, retirement home with active retirees or home workers would be the perfect place for him.

Health notes: Fudge has been neutered, vaccinated, microchipped and flea/worm treated. He has lost one eye and the other is milky, so he is partially sighted and he’s also partially deaf. Fudge has arthritic hips and takes Metacam at midday on food. He has had pancreatitis and is on a diet of special Royal Canine Gastrointestinal food with 1 1/2 cans spread over the day. He’s also just had dental treatment and the vet is very pleased with his condition and recovery.

More from his foster carer: “Fudge is loveable, willing, needy and a little insecure. He has worked hard to settle and identifies well with both of his carers. Indoors, he likes to keep a check on where we are before he will settle, but this is his insecurity. He adores his neck and ears rubbing and also is good with brushing.”

If you would like to offer Fudge a permanent home, please read our Adoption Procedures for information about the adoption process. You can then contact an Oldies Club rehoming co-ordinator as follows:

Email: rehome@oldies.org.uk
Telephone: 0844 586 8656

Fudge can be rehomed anywhere on the UK mainland – the closer to his foster home the better though, subject to a satisfactory home visit. Note that you will be required to travel to the foster home to collect him.

If you would love to offer a home to an oldie but your circumstances aren’t suitable, perhaps you would be kind enough to sponsor one of the special oldies we are caring for that, due to health problems, are unlikely to be offered a permanent home.
