24/4/22 – Monty has gone off to his new home! Yay!
———————–

Monty is a 12-year-old small crossbreed boy who came into the Oldies Club rescue after being signed over to a dog pound. He is in a foster home in Worcester, waiting for someone to offer him a permanent home. We are hoping to rehome him within a couple of hours’ drive of his foster home.

A good boy in foster care: Monty took just a few days to settle at his foster home and is proving to be an adorable little dog who just needs some TLC. His new owner will need to be happy and able to let him out in the garden every 4 hours or so, including at night.

Likes to have company: Monty likes to be with his human and will follow you around and settle near to you whatever you are doing. He is happy to help with gardening and housework. The maximum time his foster carer has left him is 2 hours and he chewed his bedding. Getting him used to being left for a short time is therefore a work in progress.

OK with dogs on walks: Monty is fine with well-mannered dogs he meets on walks. We are not sure how he would feel about living with one though.

Seems to ignore cats: We don’t know if he is used to living with cats but when he has seen them from about 4 metres he has not reacted.

Good with children: Monty seems as though he would be fine with calm, loving children aged 5 years plus.

Needs good walks: Monty is great on the lead and he enjoys a good walk. His fosterer has tried his recall in the garden and it is good. He is currently having one walk per day, of about an hour, but he’d be happy to go for two slightly shorter walks per day.

Barks in the car: Monty seems unsure about car travel as he barks continuously, so his foster carer is working on this with him. Please bear this in mind when applying to adopt him as a very long journey isn’t likely to be ideal.

Monty’s favourite pastimes: He loves to be brushed. He’s not keen on toys but he does like a game of hide and seek.

Monty’s ideal home: This fabulous lad needs a home with plenty of time, love and patience. He isn’t suitable for people who go out to work, and you must have an easily accessible, secure garden as he needs to be let out regularly.

Health notes: Monty is neutered, vaccinated and microchipped, and has been wormed and flea treated. He needs to have his ears cleaned regularly. He has some skin issues but these have improved a lot with twice-weekly baths using medicated shampoo. The vet advised to do the baths twice weekly until at least May, then to reduce them to every other week until July, then review with your vet. Monty also needs a good quality diet to help keep his skin healthy.

More from Monty’s foster carer:Monty is adorable, loving, faithful and clever. He is a wonderful, well-mannered gentleman. He does need to be able to go out to the toilet regularly, 4 hours seems to be his maximum, and this shows during the night as he barks frantically to go outside. But he will quickly settle again once he has done what he needed to do.”

If you would love to offer a home to an oldie but your circumstances aren’t suitable, perhaps you would be kind enough to sponsor one of the special oldies we are caring for that, due to health problems, are unlikely to be offered a permanent home.
