31/7/22 – Niko had the briefest stint as Old Dog of the Week: just after publishing his page, we heard that he had just found a home. We are very pleased for Niko and his new family! :)

Cheerful Niko is an Akita boy of 8 years who came into the care of Friends Of Akitas due to his owner’s change of circumstances. He’s currently in boarding kennels in Nottinghamshire.

Niko is good with other dogs on walks but wants to be the only pet at home.

Similarly, he’s good with children he meets but wants the peace of an adult-only home or possibly one with sensible teenagers.

Walkies are Niko’s favourite thing. He gets very excited when it’s time to go out as he explains on his recent Facebook post, “Yesterday was so exciting as I got to go out of kennels for the afternoon, out, out, out!! We got into the adventure box on wheels and drove a little way to somewhere called Rother Valley Country Park.

“My goodness there was a huge paddling pool of water for me to play in, there were some funny things floating on the water making odd noises and flapping but I ignored them as I was so excited to have a paddle. There were so many people and I got so many admiring glances and lovely comments, I must be a good boy!”

Niko is clean and well behaved in the home. He’s affectionate with his people and enjoys a silly game too. He’s never got the hang of toys but likes to play chase. He will need an active, outdoorsy life style to be really happy…

…and that’s regardless of the weather. In fact, snow makes him beside himself with giddiness!
