25/5/2023 Shaggy has gone home to a lovely lady with another elderly dog. He was just bouncing and looked so excited to have a girl friend so no doubt his life will be a very happy one.

Shaggy came to the care of Chilterns Dog Rescue Society in Tring because no one came forward to claim him after he was found as a stray. Being all alone in the big wide world must have been absolutely terrifying for Shaggy; not only is he very small, but also he is also almost blind.

Shaggy is a black and tan Yorkshire Terrier and is thought to be around 10 years old. He required a professional groom because his coat was so dirty and matted, hence the name he was given. He is now much more comfortable and beginning to settle into life at the Rescue Centre, but what is very clear is that Shaggy urgently needs to be in a quiet home environment with someone who can love and care for him despite his physical and psychological needs.

Shaggy has very sweet nature and is happy to be picked up and cuddled. He requires minimal exercise because his legs are quite wobbly, but a secure garden area he could potter around in would be lovely. He does not seem to be bothered whether there are other dogs around or not and would not pose any risk to a cat or other pets. Shaggy would like to live in an adult home as children may overwhelm this gentle soul.

The main reason Shaggy needs to find his forever home as soon as possible is because he has also been diagnosed with a grade 5 heart murmur. This is obviously very significant and probably life limiting and, although Shaggy is not currently displaying any clinical symptoms and does not yet require medication, this could deteriorate very suddenly.

Shaggy’s new owner will need to be someone who understands that Shaggy is hoping for the best quality of life that can be achieved for him, rather than a lengthy retirement. It’s a big ask but staff at CDRS believe there must be a canine angel out there somewhere, prepared to take Shaggy into their home and heart.
