Olaf is a gorgeous 10-year-old Border Collie x Labrador boy who came into the Oldies Club dog rescue when his owner was no longer able to care for him. Olaf is in a foster home near Yeovil in Somerset, waiting for someone to offer him a wonderful permanent home.

Summary of Olaf: Olaf’s foster carer has told us he’s the perfect dog! He’s a calm and laid-back boy who gets on well with everyone and everything. Are you special enough for our very special boy?

Settled well: Olaf was happy at his foster home straight away and he settled there within a couple of days.

Fine to be left for a few hours: Olaf would be fine living with someone who works part-time. His foster carer has left him for 3 hours and he has been fine with that. He loves to spend time with you though so wouldn’t want to live with people who are out of the home for full-time hours.

Good with dogs: Olaf is very good with other dogs and does not react to large or small dogs. He has been to his foster carer’s friends’ houses where there are dogs and been fine.

Good with cats: Olaf used to live with a cat and he was great with it; they used to snuggle up together! He recently met a cat at the vet and just sniffed its cage.

Good with children: Olaf has lived with children in the past and he loves them. He can be rehomed to live with kind, well-supervised children aged 7 years upwards.

Loves walks: Olaf loves his walks and he gets excited when getting ready to go out, but then calms down quickly. He especially likes to go off-lead across the fields but he makes sure he can see you at all times, and he stops and comes to you when called. What a good boy! He is also good on his lead, but he has no road sense. He is having a good walk each morning for 30-45 minutes and he also goes out in the garden.

Good in the car: Yes, he is! He sits on the back seat with a cover and a belt harness.

Sleeping arrangements: At night, Olaf sleeps on his cushion in the sitting room with the door open. He goes upstairs at about 7.30am to say good morning to his foster carer!

Olaf’s favourite pastimes: He loves picking up sticks when on walks and takes them to his foster carer, but sticks can be dangerous for dogs, so a safe stick toy might be a good idea him. Olaf also likes playing with and fetching balls, indoors and in the garden. He’s also a big fan of relaxing on his cushion!

Olaf’s ideal home: He would love a family home with teenagers, or with a couple or a single person, so long as they will take him for fun walks and make a fuss of him. He’s such an easy-going boy.

Health notes: Olaf is neutered, vaccinated and microchipped. He has been wormed and flea-treated. At his vet-check, the only thing of note was that he has a fatty lump on his left side. It doesn’t hurt him and the vets will not remove it as they say it will grow again. Olaf isn’t needing any medication or having any treatments.

More about Olaf from his foster carer:Loving, calm and gentle Olaf loves to be near you and he follows wherever you go. He has never barked since I have had him. He is obedient and loves to be stroked and brushed. He is an easy dog and enjoys his meals and occasional treats. He is so loving and gentle. I would say he is the perfect dog. He will lay next to your chair just relaxing! He has such a lovely face and brown eyes which give you a look.

If you would like to offer Olaf a permanent home, please read our Adoption Procedures for information about the adoption process. You can then contact the Oldies Club rehoming team as follows:

Email: rehome@oldies.org.uk for an application form.

Or phone 0844 586 8656, leaving a message including your email address, and we’ll email an application form.

Olaf can be rehomed anywhere on the UK mainland – the closer to his foster home the better – subject to a satisfactory home visit. Note that you will be required to travel to the foster home to collect him.

If you would love to offer a home to an oldie but your circumstances aren’t suitable, perhaps you would be kind enough to sponsor one of the special oldies we are caring for that, due to health problems, are unlikely to be offered a permanent home.
