This is an urgent appeal for a temporary foster placement for bonded best friends Homer the St Bernard and Zeno the Labrador. Maybe you could take their feline friend Berli too? But please do offer if you can only help the two dogs. They are currently in Cambridge.

Homer is a gorgeous 10-year-old St. Bernard boy. His best friend Zeno is a handsome 13-year-old red Labrador boy. They have always lived together and are very strongly bonded. They need to move by mid-September as their owner is relocating abroad and isn’t able to take them. They live with Berli the cat who also needs a home.

Homer and Zeno are on our waiting list for a place with Oldies Club rescue, but we have no foster homes available that can take large dogs. We are therefore running this special appeal to recruit a foster home specifically for Homer and Zeno (and maybe their cat friend too). Once assessed in foster they will be available for adoption. We would love to hear from you if you would like to foster them with a view to subsequently adopting them both.

We will arrange transport to their foster home and ideally this should be within about 3 hours of Cambridge, but we can be flexible for the perfect home. Ideally you will have large-breed experience. Both dogs are cat friendly. They haven’t lived with children but should be fine to live with sensible large-dog-savvy teenagers.
Homer and Zeno are content with fairly short daily walks, with a longer walk or ball play a few times a week. Their foster home must have a private secure garden for them to enjoy. Homer and Zeno are not used to going up and down steps and stairs, so a home where they can stay mainly on one level would be ideal.

Homer the St Bernard is described as very laid back, friendly and affectionate. He loves people he meets and then ignores them. If you want to play with him, he’ll roll over and let you stroke his tummy. He likes other dogs that he sees out and about, but because of his size, sensible introductions are needed. He travels well and can be left at home for up to 4 hours with Zeno. He needs weekly ear cleaning for yeast – this has been ongoing since he was young and doesn’t cause any issues. He is neutered and microchipped.
Zeno the Labrador is gentle, calm, and friendly with both people and other animals. He is very easy to look after and is content to spend much of the day resting. He loves going out for walks and can be excited, but he doesn’t pull on the lead. He has some stiffness in one of his hips but he is fine after resting. He isn’t on any treatment. He is neutered and microchipped.
Berli is a male tabby cat who is accustomed to spending time outdoors. He is calm, affectionate and friendly with people. He is also very comfortable around dogs, having lived with Homer and Zeno for many years. He would need to be kept indoors in his new home for at least a few weeks until he has become attached to his new surroundings.
Could you foster this special, devoted duo? The icing on the cake would be if you could perhaps take their feline friend Berli too?

If you could offer Homer and Zeno (and maybe Berli) a suitable foster home, preferably within about 3 hours’ drive of Cambridge, please contact us ASAP as follows:

Oldies Club will arrange transport to the foster home and will cover the cost of any medical care Homer and Zeno (and Berli) might need while they are in foster. You can read more about fostering for Oldies Club here.
