3/6/18 – Chip has been adopted by his foster family!

Cheerful Chip is a 10 year old Labrador who came into the Oldies Club rescue because his owners’ long working hours meant they could no longer look after him. He’s having the best of times in foster care in Banbury, Oxfordshire while he waits for someone to offer him a permanent home.

A happy boy in foster: Chip inspected everything in his new surrounds with great interest and quickly found the sofa and his foster carers’ bed to be just right! He’s been given a bed of his very own but isn’t convinced it’s as good as the sofa yet.

Loves company: Chip prefers to be with people most of the time. He is highly trainable and always wants to please so, once his confidence has been built up, the time he’s left alone could be gradually increased. He will always be happiest with someone around for company though.

Great with dogs: Chip really loves other dogs! He meets and greets them nicely. He is both friendly and kind to all other dogs. He would probably enjoy living with one or more. The more the merrier! Dogs of a similar size and robustness might be best.

Chases cats: Such fun!

Probably good with children: It’s thought that Chip would be happy living with older children. He’s friendly and polite with all people but he is pretty big – weighing in at 26kg and has a very waggy tail, so small children could get bowled over with love! He’s certainly young at heart and enjoys playing with everyone he can.

Loves his walks: Chip is curious and full of enthusiasm for exercise and play. His recall is generally quite good. It’s not entirely reliable if he’s absorbed in something fun but he will come back for treats! He adores being off lead – running around, playing with other dogs or just exploring fields. If there is any water he loves to have a swim too! He would benefit from being able to have regular off lead exercise at his new home. He’s used to going out 2 or 3 times a day, for at least 30-40 minutes at a time. If he’s out with other dogs or off lead then 2 good walks would probably suffice, but don’t worry, he’ll let you know if he wants to go out again!

Good in the car: He really likes going on adventures in the car and watches out of the window to see which exciting place you’re taking him!

Chip’s favourite pastimes: Playing with other dogs or his human friends, getting pats and attention, walking, swimming, running, pleasing people, getting belly rubs and, of course, eating!

Chip’s dislikes: Strange noises and horses.

Chip’s ideal home:  Chip would be a great addition to almost any household, as he is easy-going and extremely lovable. He’s a happy boy who gets along with everyone, humans and dogs alike. He is very affectionate, loving cuddles and will attempt to lie on your lap. He knows some commands, ‘sit’, ‘stay’ etc. and maybe many more. He finds training to be super fun! He needs a garden and some safe, open spaces to lollop about in. It’s not all go, all the time with Chip though. As long as someone is nearby, he sure knows how to relax!

Health notes: Chip is neutered, vaccinated, microchipped and flea worm treated. The vet noticed a touch of arthritis in his back legs but Chip seems to be unaware of it still!

Chip’s foster carers say: “He is sweet, affectionate, active and has a hunger for life… and food! We have loved fostering Chip. Seeing how much joy he gets out of meeting dogs and people is wonderful. He often has an afternoon walk with four other dogs and he loves that kind of activity. He is a curious, loving, appreciative, sensitive Lab who seems much younger than his 10 years. There is still lots of fun to be had with Chip. He is a fantastic dog!”
