24/4/18 – Pippin has gone to her new home!

Perfect, cuddly little Pippin is a 9 year old Terrier cross who came into the Oldies Club rescue when her owner had to move and wasn’t allowed to bring her. She’s now in a foster home in Newark, Nottinghamshire, waiting for someone lovely to offer her a permanent home.

A happy girl in foster: Pippin settled in to her foster home straight away, finding all the soft furnishings to be just right!

Can be left for a couple of hours: Pippin does love company so she’d like to have someone with her most of the time. She’s a sensible girl though, and can be left for 2-3 hours when you need to go and do boring human things without her.

Can live with dogs: Pippin is good with other dogs as long as they’re not overbearing. She’d be happy to live with another friendly dog of about the same size or even smaller.

Could possibly live with a confident cat: Pippin used to live with a cat but has only met one since being in foster care… and she chased it. Of course, if you’re a Terrier and a cat runs away it’s impossible not to chase! Maybe with a careful introduction and a dog savvy cat, mutual respect could be achieved. Maybe.

Good with children: Pippin used to live with children and has a lovely gentle nature so she should be fine to live with sensible older ones or have visiting grandchildren to play fetch with her.

Loves her walks: At the moment Pippin has an hour long walk in the morning and half an hour one in the afternoon. It’s thought she’d easily manage a longer afternoon one. She’s very good on the lead and great off lead too. Her recall is pretty good. Even if she doesn’t come back to you, she will stop and let you catch her up. Not that she’s ever stubborn or anything ;)

Mostly OK in the car: Pippin will travel in the car but she does whine a bit. Bless her!

Pippin’s favourite pastimes: Cuddles, food, tummy rubs, walkies, snuggling with you, playing with her toys, more food, chews and another tummy rub please! She also likes zipping about in the snow but she does feel the cold, so she needs a cosy coat.

Pippin’s ideal home: Pippin loves her people and needs a home where she can be with someone most of the time. Otherwise, she’s a cheerful and easy-going girl. As long as there’s plenty of snuggly cuddles on offer she’ll be very happy.

Health notes: Pippin is vaccinated, microchipped and flea/worm treated. She will be spayed once she’s had her next season. This can be done after she’s been adopted and Oldies Club will, of course, pay for it. At the same time she has two very small mammary lumps to be removed. She’s had these for years and they’ve stayed the same size.

Pippin suffers from itchy skin. This seems to have been going on for a long time, however with careful monitoring and treatment, it can be managed just fine. It is vital that her flea treatment is kept up to date as it’s thought she has a severe flea allergy. She is currently on Apoquel to help with the itching and this works well. The dose is being reduced to find what is the lowest dose she can manage on without any discomfort (hopefully one tablet a day or less).

Pippin’s foster carer said: “Loving, curious, snuggly, playful and possibly a bit stubborn – Pippin is a delightful little lady who has come on in leaps and bounds since coming into foster. She is very amenable and seems quite happy to do whatever you’re doing, and is no trouble at all. She loves her walks, especially in the snow, so long as she’s wrapped up warm as she does feel the cold. She loves her snuggles, cuddles and especially tummy rubs. And will greet all visitors by throwing herself on her back at their feet and demanding more tummy rubs!”

If you would like to offer Pippin a permanent home, please read our Adoption Procedures for information about the adoption process. You can then contact an Oldies Club rehoming co-ordinator as follows:

Email: rehome@oldies.org.uk
Telephone: 0844 586 8656

Pippin can be rehomed anywhere on the UK mainland, subject to a satisfactory home visit, but note that you will be required to travel to the foster home to meet her.

If you would love to offer a home to an oldie but your circumstances aren’t suitable, perhaps you would be kind enough to sponsor one of the special oldies we are caring for that, due to health problems, are unlikely to be offered a permanent home.
