Ralph is an 8-10 year old, small Crossbreed boy in foster care near Norwich through Safe Rescue. He needs an adult-only home and owners who will be very careful about his dietary needs. He’s a bit on the shy side but loves a fuss once he trusts you.

Ralph is a quirky little chap with a lot of love to give but he does require rather a special home. He arrived in foster care a few weeks ago from a shelter in Romania. On arrival it was quickly apparent that something was not at all right with him. A trip to the vet and subsequent blood tests showed he was suffering from acute pancreatitis and had been for some time. The subtle signs were impossible to notice in the shelter environment where he had shared a pen with several other dogs. He was understandably quite grumpy and cross at that point as he was in considerable discomfort. He’d been unable to eat properly for a while and under all the dense fur was a skeletal frame.

He was put on a course of painkillers and antibiotics and after a few days started to feel better and began eating again. As his health improved so did his temperament. He can still be wary of new people but warms up quite quickly to those who feed him! He will always have pancreatitis and must be fed a strictly controlled diet. All food must contain no more than 2% fat. Pancreatitis is a common disorder in dogs and there is plenty to read and research on the internet for anyone considering adopting Ralph.

Ralph can live with other dogs but does like space when he’s sleeping and doesn’t enjoy sharing a bed. He’s a very affectionate and loving dog to people he knows but still needs to be muzzled when bathed or groomed for now. He walks nicely on and off lead and enjoys his walks. He completely ignores cats. Ralph’s vision is not perfect and will probably deteriorate further over the next few years but overall he is now a very happy and contented little dog.

It was lucky that Safe Rescue took Ralph from the shelter when they did, nobody could have known how ill he was but if fate hadn’t have brought him to them he would very soon have deteriorated. The little character they present to you now is a far cry from the scared little scrap who suffered so long in silence. He deserves every future happiness!
