Toby is a gorgeous 11 year old Labrador who is at Chilterns Dog Rescue Society, Tring, Hertfordshire.
Toby has spent all his life in one home, but sadly both of his owners passed away within a short space of time, and without any other family members or friends able to care for him, Toby’s future was very uncertain. Luckily, kind neighbours stepped in and arranged for Toby to go to CDRS.
Toby is a big, bouncy boy who seems to have no idea how senior dogs are supposed to behave, bless him! He loves to go for walks, although at the moment these are deliberately quite short, several times a day, as Toby steadily sheds the extra pounds he has gained over the years.
He loves meeting people and he throws himself into his greetings wholeheartedly. He is a real softy who enjoys attention and, as the vet noted, has transformed in the short time he has been in rescue. Toby gets on well with other dogs and has always been friendly with visiting children, if a little boisterous. He has not lived with cats but could perhaps learn to do so.
He will walk nicely on the lead but until recently has never enjoyed time off lead. Toby can be left for a few hours a day without becoming worried but he has had little experience of travelling by car.
Toby is a really happy, friendly dog with a great personality, and with ongoing weight and exercise management, should be able to make the most of a much more active and stimulating lifestyle than of late. A country home with a secure garden and someone fit enough to share his new lease of life would be perfect.
Toby weighed 40 kg on arrival which impacted his mobility and stamina. He has already lost more than 3 kg and is enjoying the benefits of a more slimline body. It will take time for him to achieve his optimum weight of course. He has mild arthritis but this is improving with weight loss. Apart from a couple of small benign cysts on his leg, which require no treatment, and some age-related changes to his eyes, Toby is in amazingly good health for his years. He is neutered.
This wonderful lad deserves a fun retirement where he can enjoy life to the full. Could that be with you?
